Homebrew Awakened Cat Species Details

Awakened Cats have many origins, but almost all stem from interference from a magical being. Some Awakened Cats were originally beasts blessed with human intelligence, or born from a magical spirit manifests as a familiar for a Fey, Celestial, Fiend, or mortal mage that has either willingly been let go from or escaped the bonds of the spell whilst maintaining a corporeal form.

An Awakened Cat has an appearance identical to a domestic cat, and therefore can only be distinguished once it speaks or exhibits its intelligence. Their appearance can vary wildly between breeds, including size, fur density and colour, etc. Some Awakened Cats choose to wear clothing and accessories such as jewelry. Depending on their background, an Awakened Cat's lifespan can be as short as a regular feline's (12-20 years), as long as a human's (60-80 years), or indefinite if magically created.

Despite their intelligence, Awakened Cat's still hold the curiosity, obstinacy, and arrogance of their animal counterparts, some being easily distracted, able to be bought with shiny objects or food, or spiteful to those that have scorned them.

Awakened Cat Traits

As a Tiny creature without hands, you are unable to wield weapons without the Light property. Your Creature Type is Fey, Celestial, Fiend, or Beast, depending on your background. As an Awakened Cat, you also have these special traits:

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Cat's Claws

You can use your claws to make Unarmed Strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d4 + your Strength modifier Slashing damage, instead of the Bludgeoning damage normal for an Unarmed Strike.

Feline Agility

Your reflexes and agility allow you to move with a burst of speed. When you move your turn in combat, you can double your speed until the end of the turn. Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you move 0 feet on one of your turns.

Cat's Senses

You have Proficiency in the Perception and Stealth skills.

Cat's Reflexes

You have resistance to Bludgeoning damage from Falling, and cannot be knocked Prone from Falling. You also have Proficiency in the Acrobatics skill.

Cat's Tongue

You are able to comprehend and verbally communicate with Cats.
