Homebrew Awakened Myconid Species Details
Born of living fungus, myconids are sapient, mushroom-shaped beings who thrive in the dark recesses of the Underdark. They are gentle and contemplative, guided by a deep communal consciousness that binds their colonies together. Though they rarely seek conflict, myconids are capable of defending themselves and their kin with powerful spores and natural resilience.
Myconids communicate through spore-borne telepathy, sharing emotions, images, and simple thoughts with others of their kind and with creatures attuned to them. This connection fosters understanding and empathy, allowing them to resolve disputes without violence when possible.
Outside the colony, myconids are unusual adventurers. Driven by curiosity, a need to protect the natural world, or the call of exploration, they move among other races with quiet wisdom and a calm, otherworldly presence. Even the most timid myconid carries within it a profound connection to the living fungi of the world, and its spores can soothe, warn, or even incapacitate when necessary.

Awakened Myconid Traits
Myconid Born of living fungus and animated by a communal spore-consciousness, myconids are sapient mushroom folk who dwell in the dark reaches of the Underdark. To outsiders they seem alien and emotionless, yet myconids experience rich inner lives shaped by empathy, memory, and shared sensation. Their society values harmony above all things, and violence is viewed as a last resort—though myconids are far from defenseless. Myconids communicate through telepathic spores, sharing thoughts, emotions, and even visions with those around them. This deep connection fosters an innate understanding of other creatures and a natural resistance to fear and corruption. While most myconids live quiet lives tending fungal groves, some feel the call to adventure—driven by curiosity, exile, or the need to protect the delicate balance of the natural world. Player character myconids represent individuals whose spores have grown unusually potent, granting them greater resilience and control over their innate fungal magic. ThouDarkvision
Accustomed to life in the lightless Underdark, you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in darkness only as shades of gray.
Spore Telepathy
You can communicate telepathically with any creature you can see within 30 feet, provided the creature understands at least one language. This communication is silent and requires no shared language, but it conveys only simple ideas, emotions, and sensory impressions.
Distress Spores
When you take damage, you can use your reaction to release distress spores. Each creature of your choice within 5 feet of you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or be poisoned until the end of its next turn.
You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Pacifying Spores
As an action, you can release calming spores in a 10-foot radius centered on yourself. Creatures of your choice in the area must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or be stunned until the end of your next turn. A creature that succeeds on the save is immune to this trait for 24 hours.
Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
