Homebrew Automaton Species Details
Many centuries ago, a master craftsmen wished to bring life into the world in a roundabout manner. He built a machine designed to perform a task perfectly. What that task is, who that craftsmen was, is up to you. In some rare cases, this mechanical body is inhabited by a soul or a ghost, in the form of a magical artifact trapped inside the centre of the automaton. This soul controls the entire body and can do what they desire using it.
Automaton Traits
You have immunity to the charmed effect, modifiers to stats, including AC, proficiency in a weapon, item or tool of your choice, you know common, and 2 other languages of your choice.Ability Score Increases
Due to your mechanical body, you are provided protection beyond the ordinary, increasing your armour class rating by one. Your capacity for strength and stamina are also beyond the ordinary limits of humanity, increasing your Strength and Constitution by 1 each. This is because you were designed to withstand harsh conditions and environments, and have been designed appropriately so.
Proficiency in 3 Languages
Your master created you to be well versed in the ways of the world, and to have the ability to gain knowledge in a variety of ways. To do this, you must be able to speak to and learn from those you meet, especially if your prime directive relates to the information you gathered. You have the uncanny ability to store information like no other, thus, you try to gain as much of it as you can. You may choose 2 languages.
Immunity to the Charmed Condition
As an Automaton, you are created for one purpose only, and have been told to never stray from that path. Thus, due to this, you are unable to feel emotions such as love, unless you are controlled by a spirit. In this case, the body itself refuses to express those emotions,and continues in its task. No amount of skill in magic, magic items of anything of the sort could charm an Automaton, as it is too focused on its task.
Ability Score Decrease
Due to your robotic body, it is difficult for people to take you seriously. They see you as a lesser being, as you do not have the life and emotions required to be counted as a living being. Even if you are a human soul controlling the robotic body, none will see you as equals. This makes it hard the convince people of anything andvnigh on impossible for people to give you the same amount of rewards as your other party members.
Proficiency in a Weapon or Tool
As you are designed for one purpose, you creator gave you the unique ability to be immensely skilled in something related to that task. For example, if your task is to bring justice to an evil dragon, you would gain proficiency in a longsword or longbow, depending on your wishes. However, this skill could also be impacted by your creators likes or dislikes, thus, you gain the ability to change this proficiency at every level.
