Homebrew Awakened Mimic Species Details
Once an object that waited patiently for prey, you were awakened by magic, divine intervention, or arcane accident. You now walk among humanoids, wearing a flesh-like form that feels
mostly natural—though your instincts, hunger, and strange biology still betray your origins.
An Awakened Mimic appears humanoid, often indistinguishable from a member of another race, but subtle tells—unnatural stillness, odd textures, faint seams, or a smile that lingers too long—can reveal what lies beneath.
Awakened Mimic Traits
As an awakened mimic player character, you have the following traits.Creature Type
You are a Monstrosity.
Size
You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.
Speed
Your walking speed is 30 ft.
Humanoid Facade
When you create your character, choose a presenting humanoid race.
- You physically resemble this race and are treated as that race for purely cosmetic, social, and cultural purposes (clothing, mannerisms, first impressions).
- This choice does not grant any mechanical traits, proficiencies, or features of the chose race.
- Magic that reveals creature type still identifies you as humanoid.
Adhesive Flesh
Your body retains the unnatural stickiness of a mimic.
- You have advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to grapple a creature.
- Creatures you are grappling have disadvantage on ability checks made to escape your grapple.
Darkvison
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of yourself as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.
Bite
Your fanged maw is a natural weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Predatory Instinct
You are built to ambush and seize, you can choose between Stealth or Deception.
Object Affinity
You retain an instinctive understanding of objects and spaces. You have advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) checks made to identify hidden compartments, traps, secret latches, or false surfaces in objects or structures.
