Homebrew Cambion Species Details

Cambions are former mortals remade by the influence of the Lower Planes. Some were possessed by fiends and never fully recovered what was taken from them. Others were resurrected by cruel spellcraft, marked by a god’s curse, altered by long exposure to infernal realms, or changed forever by bargains and blasphemous rituals. However they began, cambions carry a tangible stain of fiendish might—something deeper and more deliberate than distant ancestry.

Unlike tieflings, who often live as free-willed people with only a hint of infernal heritage, cambions are bound to their origin in a more immediate way. Their bodies may show it in obvious signs—dark wings, unnatural eyes, heatless embers beneath the skin—or in subtler tells: a shadow that leans the wrong way, a voice that turns persuasive without meaning to, or a presence that makes holy places feel just a little less welcoming.

Many cambions serve the malevolent forces that created them, acting as agents, enforcers, or ambitious heirs to fiendish power. Others rebel against that fate, clinging to the last pieces of their mortality and turning their gifts toward their own ends—whether that means redemption, revenge, or simply the freedom to choose. Whatever path a cambion walks, one truth follows: their power came at a price, and the Lower Planes are rarely finished collecting.
