Homebrew Dovahnox Species Details

Dovahnox

Draconic Blood Meets Infernal Flame

Dovahnox are the rare and striking descendants of Dragonborn and Tieflings of the Mephistopheles lineage. They carry the physical majesty of dragons alongside the eerie, crystalline influence of Cania’s eighth hell. Often possessing scales with a metallic or chromatic sheen that transitions into matte, darkened skin, Dovahnox are easily identified by their swept-back horns and eyes that glow like banked coals.

Dovahnox Traits

As a Dovahnox, you have the following traits.

  • Creature Type: Humanoid.

  • Size: Medium (about 6–7 feet tall).

  • Speed: 30 feet.

  • Life Span: 100 years on average.

As a Dovahnox, you also have these special abilities:

  • Breath Weapon. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 + your Constitution modifier + your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, a creature takes 2d10 Fire damage. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach level 5 (3d10), 11 (4d10), and 17 (5d10). You can use this Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

  • Legacy of Cania. You know the Mage Hand cantrip. Starting at character level 3, you can cast the Burning Hands spell with this trait. Starting at character level 5, you can cast the Flame Blade spell with it. Once you cast Burning Hands or Flame Blade with this trait, you can’t cast that spell with it again until you finish a Long Rest. You can also cast these spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells (choose when you select this race).

  • Draconic Resistance. You have Resistance to Fire damage.

  • Darkvision. You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

On a failed save, a creature takes 1d10 damage of the type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach character levels 5 (2d10), 11 (3d10), and 17 (4d10).

During that time, you have a Fly Speed equal to your Speed. Your wings appear to be made of the same energy as your Breath Weapon. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
