Homebrew Crystonian Species Details

Perfection.  That is the goal of the Crystonian Empire.

Millenia ago, the world was considered a potential colony and target for conquest.  To this end, the Diamond Authority sent some of their own to scout the planet and report back.  There was an unexpected consequence, though—one of the party members fell in love with life in all its flaws.  The rebellion war came swiftly, unseen by the native creatures, and thousands upon thousands were slaughtered, the pieces of their bodies indistinguishable from natural gemstones found in the earth.  Only a few defenders remained, living on in full knowledge of what horrors would await if a second war began.

Eventually, though, the War ended, and the Authority thought the planet lost and the rebels completely obliterated.  This wasn’t entirely true, however, as some shards began to reform new crystals, birthing new Crystonians from the elements around.  Recently, though, the Diamond authority has gained new interest in the planet, and has sent small scouting parties once again.

Sizes and Colors May Vary

The size of a Crystonian can vary wildly, from that of the smallest halfling to the largest goliath, although most are around human height.  However, the crystals that compose their bodies are very light, and often members of this race weigh the equivalent of a human eighteen inches shorter.  Builds differ wildly as well, some having curvy figures and others looking emaciated to the human eye.

When it comes to skin and hair coloration, each clan has a gemstone associated with them, and this dictates their colors.  A Ruby, for instance, will never be green, but the many variations of a diamond are equally visible.  Stripes or blotches may be present and mistakable for tattoos or makeup.  In addition, each Crystonian has a single growth on their body made of the gem of their clan, and presenting as a polished and cut gemstone that would make a jeweler drool with envy.

Crystonian have no gender, often using female pronouns as they largely appear female, although some are far more androgynous if not outright masculine.

Memories of Ages Forgotten

A Crystonian has an extremely long life, reaching adulthood within days, but living to several thousand years.  It is difficult to kill a Crystonian, as they are not especially vulnerable to flesh wounds or poison, although destroying their pure gem growth will be fatal.  Old age entails crystal growth impeding joints or other bodily functions, and ritual mercy-killings are standard.

While difficult to kill, corruption and trauma may lead to insanity, which often results in misshapen crystalline growth.

Crystonian Names

Most Crystonian have clan names as their only name, although nicknames in groups of more than one of the same family are common enough that in their own circles, or to close friends, they use them.  However, to strangers, they often use only their gem name.

Examples:   Agate, Ametrine, Chalcedony, Iolite, Jade, Opal, Lemon-Quartz, Sapphire, Topaz, Zircon

Variants

There are two types of Crystonian.  Those whose powers draw on earthen elemental powers to create physical weapons, and those who can manipulate the world around them by bending metals or controlling the flow of water.  Choose one of these.
