Homebrew Cursed Womb: Death Painting Species Details

Death Paintings are half-human, half-curse beings created through forbidden occult experimentation. Their souls remained dormant as cursed objects—small humanoid fetuses—until incarnated into flesh through ingestion by a mortal host. Once given form, they resemble humans, though their cursed lineage manifests through their blood, emotions, and aura. Powerful yet unstable, Death Paintings struggle to reconcile their humanity with the curse festering in their veins.

Cursed Womb: Death Painting Traits

Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 4–7 feet tall) or Small (about 2–4 feet tall), chosen when you select this species
Speed: 30 feet

As a Cursed Womb: Death Painting, you have these special traits.

Creature Type

You are Humanoid and Curse.
For spells or effects, the DM may treat you as either type.

Age

Death Paintings do not age normally. Once incarnated, they physically mature quickly and then age at a slowed rate. They can live hundreds of thousands of years unless destroyed.

Cursed Body

Your body is an amalgamation of flesh and cursed energy, producing blood that is both toxic and endlessly renewable. Any creature that wounds you at close range is exposed to your cursed blood; when a creature comes into contact with your blood, it immediately takes poison damage equal to your proficiency bonus as your blood burns against it and gains the poisoned condition, notably, the poison effect does not work on curses due to their cursed physiology. Should you choose, you can smear your own blood onto a weapon as a bonus action, causing that weapon’s next successful strike to deal an additional 1d6 poison damage before the blood evaporates from the surface. Because your blood is sustained more by cursed energy than biology, you can regenerate it almost instantly. By using cursed energy, you may convert it directly into new blood at a ratio of one point of cursed energy to one pint of blood, or two points for an entire liter. You may perform this conversion as a bonus action or as a reaction when something attempts to drain, spill, or otherwise exploit your blood loss. This regenerative capability renders you effectively immune to bleeding; you automatically stabilize when reduced to zero hit points unless killed outright, and effects that rely on blood loss cannot reduce your effectiveness unless they are specifically designed to target cursed beings. Your cursed physiology also grants you resilience unnatural for a being with a physical body. You have resistance to necrotic damage.

Blood Connection

Your cursed blood forms a spiritual network that ties you to others who share your lineage. Through this connection, you can sense profound changes in the condition of your blood-kin regardless of distance, feeling their pain, distress, or transformation as if it resonates within your own body. The death of a relative strikes you as a sudden, visceral shift, an instinctive awareness that bypasses sight or sound and imprints itself directly onto your mind. This bond may sometimes manifest as flashes of intuition or momentary visions concerning their fate, powerful enough to distract or halt you in moments of emotional intensity.

Blood and Flesh Curse

Death Paintings are unusual among curses because they possess real flesh. This allows them to be seen by normal humans and to be affected by things that normally target humanoids.
