Homebrew Dragon Tortle Species Details

Dragon tortles are a rare, recently discovered humanoid species that bear traits resembling the fearsome dragon turtles of the ocean. Like dragonborn, they tend to live together in nomadic clans to which they are fiercely loyal, though their clans are more often found in the depths of the sea than on land. Land-dwelling dragon tortle clans do exist, however, and their unique traits allow them to thrive in either environment. Dragon tortles, similarly to their tortle cousins, have a sense of being connected to the natural world. They have a particular affinity for the more intense elements of nature; they tend to gather around hydrothermic vents, deep ocean trenches, active volcanoes, ice caps, and other places where nature's power is on display. These extreme environments are often reflections of their extreme personalities, fiery and passionate with a love for thrill and adventure.

It is heavily disputed whether dragon tortles are a variant of dragonborn or of tortles. Dragon tortles themselves typically believe that they were created by the dragon turtle god Akali in her own image, and in the absence of any true historical documentation of their lineage, that theory is generally accepted as the most plausible. The cultural similarities between them and their neighbor species allow them to find kinship with both, and it would not be a stretch to assume that some dragon tortles dwell among clans of dragonborn and tortles alike.
