Homebrew Aquyan Species Details
After the cataclysm that split the realm of elements apart from the greater elemental chaos, each of the realms began to produce their own personal races. The elemental plane of water was the first to create a being that was the pure embodiment of their element. The waters that flowed through their home plane were calm and serene, never tumulous or broken by waves. It always felt as though you were a few meters down in the water and it was in this place of calm that a small whirlpool came into existence. Just above the Isle of Dread, no one could make sense of this pocket of raging water that reached down through the depths. Those who came to see could not get close to it as it's rotation created waves of energy that pushed outward and at the bottom point of the whirlpool, there was a small light, only visible in the darkest of conditions. That light grew over many years until a shifting body began to form. A pocket of water that moved counter to the rest of the water. It was incredibly difficult to see and some people thought that it was a hallucination brought on by the shifting waters above. As time went on, this was refuted as the body grew into a full grown creature. On the fiftieth year of the whirlpools movements, it stopped, as suddenly as it began. The Tritons who had been sent to guard against whatever was causing it were astonished to see a creature of silt and mud floating before them. His body smooth, yet shifting. Small spikey growths grew from the creatures face and his body was long and slender. It would be easy to misidentify his inner form as another race entirely but as the Tritons watched the newly born person took his first breath. As he did the water around him worked its way throughout its body letting the shifting silt, sand, and mud dissipate into the watery form around him and then he was gone. One of the tritons, a woman named Feloren, swore that he saw a shifting form moving towards one of the islands in the Isle of Dread but none of the other guards corroborated this claim.
On the Islands the creature lay, eyes wide open, breathing in the strange atmosphere. Air or water didn't matter to him, he could breathe both easily. He looked around and noticed another form on the Island. A woman, similar to himself, also looking around confused. As they spoke, he realized that as everyone was distracted by him the exact same phenomenon was happening in the depths and darkness near the Silt Flats. The man, who would later call himself Wallawa, looked out over the plane that he was born in and decided that it was a good place to protect. The lady, who called herself Aquina, agreed and they began to form a society hidden from the rest of the world but in plain sight. They knew the shifting of the water and created a great city using water's refractive properties to hide it entirely and they grew over the years until two adventures, Isla and Silvanus, took it upon themselves to swim through the great Oceanus and stumbled into the material plane. There they began a new city and civilization hidden from the world deep underwater until the time they felt the rest of the races would accept them.
Aquyan Traits
A being of pure water who uses the shifting waves to their advantage.Ability Score Increase
Your Dexterity score increases by 2, Your Strength score increases by 1, and your Wisdom score is lowered by 1
Age
Aquyans have lifespans comparable to Elves. Aquyans age rapidly from birth until they become full-grown at age 6 and can live to be 750 years old. At that point, every Aquyan will die at regardless. As Aquyans ages after age 6, their water surrounding their body becomes more turbulent, looking like a raging ocean in the midst of a storm right before death.
Alignment
Water is calm and obeys the many laws placed on it. Never truly moving unless acted upon by some source. As such the Aquyans follow the rules set before them. They try to live in peace as much as possible. They do not lean towards helping others or themselves first and remain neutral.
Size
Aquyans are average height although extremely slender. they range between 5'5" and 6'5". Due to their slender nature and being made of water they average 136.68 Pounds.
Vision
An Aquyan can see at any depth of water as if it were bright light. If an Aquyan is out of the water they have 30 ft. basic vision unless they keep water in front of their eyes. If they do, they can see as though they would have darkvision of 120ft. Most Aquyans wear steampunk goggles that trap seawater within them. These goggles give them their effect darkvision.
Aquyan immunity
The Aquyans body is completely surrounded by water that is constantly moving. Due to this, the Aquyan is resistant to Cold Damage.
Water Form
An Aquyan can move through a space as narrow as 1 inch wide without squeezing. They can also focus on their form as an action and turn themselves into a puddle that they can remain in for 1 hour or until they are struck or they reform. While in this form they are still able to take damage. You cannot move or take actions except to reform, but are completely indistinguishable from a normal puddle. If another creature occupies the same space while you are a puddle and ends its turn you will take 1d10 bludgeoning damage. You may reform on your turn as a bonus action or as part of an opportunity attack reaction. If you take your opportunity attack reaction you make this attack with disadvantage.
Disappearance
An Aquyan can fully disappear into the water. Being that they are completely made of water they can hide entirely by jumping into the water. An Aquyan gains advantage on all stealth checks while within the water.
Pyrophobia
Due to the Aquyan being made of water they fear fire for they will evaporate. As such they will take damage when around flames. When You are within a 15 ft. radius sphere of the fire you will take 1d4 fire damage and when in the same space as the fire you will take 1d10 damage on top of the natural damage you would incur. Fire is thusly terrifying. An Aquyan will need to make Wisdom saving throws when confronted with uncontrolled fire (ie. a forest fire nor fireball or a fyran). If you fail you will become frightened of the fire. You can make another saving throw at the beginning of every round.
Natural form
An Aquyan's body is almost always covered by a layer of water both as a protection measure as well as a hiding measure. Though for those they get close to they can choose to show their natural form. They pull the water away and reveal the silty, muddy body underneath. They are tall and slender like elves but with chunks of mud protruding from their bodies randomly. Their arms are covered in layers of sand and often shift and break before reforming. They look as though they are living beings of mud.
A half-breed with any of the other races would have a natural form that looked outwardly like the race they were interbred with. A half-elf Aquyan would be elvish but made from the muddy substance.
Language
The Aquyans speak the way of the water. Mostly primordial with an understanding of common. They also dedicate themselves to learn one language of their choice.
