Homebrew Ant Species Details

Ant societies are eusocial in nature and the ants that can be found adventuring are either of a specific species in a larger super-colony that is more suited for travel, or develop into the role as they age. Certain colonie(s) of ants have developed a new caste of ants that adventure for the benefit of their colony. They are essentially a more autonomous far-ranged forager. Social interaction does not come easy to the ants and while they have learned the common language of sentient being around them they have no way to speak of their own. Most ants have little experience with other species and might only have a small innate understanding of what other species find valuable.

While these ants are sentient it is important to understand that their development is very different from all other sentient being. Every action is contextualized by the needs of the colony. Ants don't have a conventional survival instinct, most ants if lost from their colony would continue searching for it until they die of starvation with no regard for their own health. The adventuring ants have some more freedom as they might have to spend weeks or months away from the colony in order to find things they need.
