Homebrew Dracotaur Species Details

Despite their uncanny resemblance to devils, Dracotaur are in fact an extremely rare hybrid of Dragonborn and Minotaur and can only be conceived with the aid of high magic such a Wish spell.  Equipped with strong horns and a powerful natural breath weapon, even a young Dracotaur a deadly serious threat.

Dracotaur look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form. Their small, fine scales are usually scarlet or gold in color. They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 7½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more. Their hands and feet are strong, talonlike claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand. Manes of shaggy fur extend down dracotaurs’ necks and powerful backs, and males have long tufts of hair on their chins and cheeks. Their legs end in heavy, cloven hooves. Dracotaurs are born with long, draconic tails, though some have their tails docked as part of a coming-of-age ceremony; they find heavy armor much more comfortable without a long tail in the way.

Their horns range in size from about 1 foot long to great, curling weapons easily three times that length. They often ornament their horns with metal rings or sheathe them in metal to protect them from damage.

Well Adapted

The natural body temperature of a dragonborn combined with the fur coat of a minotaur makes you well-suited to cold climates, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide.

Horns

Your horns are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Goring Rush

Immediately after you use the Dash action on your turn and move at least 20 feet, you can make one melee attack with your horns as a bonus action.

Draconic Ancestry

You have draconic ancestry. Choose one type of dragon from the Draconic Ancestry table. Your breath weapon and damage resistance are determined by the dragon type, as shown in the table.

Breath Weapon

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common, Minotaur, and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
