Homebrew Deadpool Species Details
Deadpools are anomalies in the fabric of existence—warped by unstable magic, experimental rituals, divine accidents, or forces beyond mortal comprehension. Their bodies regenerate from wounds that would slay even the hardiest warriors. Steel pierces them, bones shatter, fire consumes them… and yet, somehow, they return.
Their flesh knits itself together in moments. Limbs reattach. Blood returns to veins as though time itself hesitates to claim them. Scars remain as reminders, but death rarely does.
What truly sets a Deadpool apart, however, is not merely their resilience—it is their perception.
Deadpools sometimes speak to unseen observers. They reference “rules,” “dice,” “plot,” or “the one controlling them.” They may comment on dramatic timing, suspicious coincidences, or how convenient it is that someone prepared Fireball today. Whether this is madness, prophecy, or awareness of forces beyond mortal understanding is a matter of debate.
Most Deadpools embrace dangerous professions. Mercenary work suits them well; after all, when consequences are temporary, risk becomes entertainment. They combine martial skill with relentless endurance, overwhelming enemies not through elegance—but through refusal to stay down.
Traveling with a Deadpool guarantees three things:
-
Combat will be loud.
-
Death will be inconvenienced.
-
Someone will be very confused about who they’re talking to.
Deadpool Traits
As a Deadpool, you possess supernatural regenerative abilities and a fractured yet strangely perceptive mind. Your body resists death with unnatural persistence, mending injuries that would permanently end most adventurers. Additionally, you exhibit moments of “Meta-Awareness”—brief instances where you seem conscious of narrative structure, fate, or even the invisible forces guiding your actions. While others may dismiss this as insanity, your instincts often prove disturbingly accurate. Your traits reflect your resilience, chaotic nature, and your tendency to acknowledge things no one else can see… including the person reading this sentence. Yes. You. Don’t roll your eyes. We both know you’re about to min-max this.Accelerated Regeneration
At the start of your turn, if you have at least 1 hit point and are below half your hit point maximum, you regain hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
If you take fire or acid damage, you cannot use this feature at the start of your next turn.
Unkillable Streak
When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead.
Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
Merc with a Mouth
You gain proficiency in two of the following skills of your choice: Acrobatics, Athletics, Intimidation, Performance, or Stealth.
Additionally, you have advantage on saving throws against being frightened.
Combat Acrobatics
When a creature you can see hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction to move up to 10 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Meta Commentary
You possess an unusual awareness of narrative timing and unseen guidance.
Once per long rest, you may speak directly to the Dungeon Master as though asking for “behind-the-scenes insight.” When you do so, choose one of the following effects:
• Gain advantage on one ability check, attack roll, or saving throw you are about to make.
• Force a creature attacking you to reroll one attack roll.
• Ask the DM for a subtle hint about your current objective or immediate danger.
The DM determines how this manifests in the story. Other creatures may perceive this as muttering, madness, or uncanny intuition.
