Homebrew Vorcha Species Details

Although they resemble a bat-like mammal-reptile cross, the Vorcha have no terrestrial analogue. They are humanoid in form, but Vorcha have "clusters" of non-differentiated neoblast cells, like those of average worms. Damaged Vorcha cells mature into specialized structures to alleviate injury or stress.

The first Vorcha had bone-like armor for skin with grey coloring, but generations of interbreeding have created a more spiked appearance. Their medium, slender bodies usually appear yellow or white in color, sometimes ranging to brown, or copper-green. They stand close to 5½ feet tall and weigh around 112 to 156 pounds. Their hands and feet are thin, talon-like claws with three fingers and a thumb on each hand.

Vorcha only live up to 20 years and reach adulthood at 10 years.

The vorcha are a clan based people who prefer living in communal environments with others of their species to living alone or in the company of other races. The vorcha who escaped their hostile island did so by hiding on the ships of sea-faring races that had the misfortune of visiting their island.

The vorcha originate from Heshtok, a small, hostile, overcrowded island which has been largely stripped of natural resources by successive generations of this fast-breeding, savage species.

To any Vorcha, the clan is more important than life itself. Vorcha owe their devotion and respect to their clan above all else, even the gods. Each Vorcha's conduct reflects on the honor of his or her clan, and bringing dishonor to the clan can result in expulsion and exile. Each Vorcha knows his or her place within the clan, and honor demands maintaining the bounds of that position.

A continual drive for self-improvement reflects the self-sufficiency of the race as a whole. Vorcha value skill and ferocity in all endeavors. They hate to fail, and they push themselves to extreme efforts before they give up on something. A Vorcha holds mastery of a particular skill as a lifetime goal. Members of other races who share the same commitment find it easy to earn the respect of a Vorcha.

Though all Vorcha strive to be self-sufficient, they recognize that help is sometimes needed in difficult situations. But the best source for such help is the clan, and when a clan needs help, it turns to another Vorcha clan before seeking aid from other races—or even from the gods.
