Homebrew Corpse Flower Species Details
Following the death of a particularly stubborn necromancer, a corpse flower took root and bloomed atop their dead body. However, likely due to residual magic from a failed attempt at lichdom or another form of necromantic immortality, the corpse flower did not grow to its full size and strength. Instead, the plant began to puppeteer the bones of the necromancer and inherit a semblance of their former intelligence. In a strange and twisted way, the necromancer got their wish: life after death. You may inherit the memories of the dead arcanist, perhaps seeking to finish what they started, or perhaps feeling remorse and trying to make a new life for yourself. Alternatively or you may remember nothing at all, relying only on your macabre survival instincts. Regardless of what path you choose to pursue, you will find yourself universally reviled by the living, for you carry perpetually the unmistakable stench of death.
Corpse Flower Traits
You retain most of the unique traits of a true corpse flower, but contained within a humanoid form. Unfortunately, unless you pursue the arcane arts, the power to reanimate corpses has been lost.Plant
Your creature type is plant.
Ability Score Increase
Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Intelligence score increases by 1.
Movement Speed
Your base walking speed is 20 feet.
Blindsight
In due parts to your many fibrous feelers and your supernatural origins, you can accurately discern your surroundings without the need for light. You have blindsight to a range of 120 feet, but you are blind beyond this radius.
Spider Climb
You move using plant tendrils wrapped around the bones of your legs. Though they shamble awkwardly, they root firmly and allow you to easily climb any surface. You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed, and you can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
Stench of Death
You constantly produce a vile odor that overpowers the senses with the stench of death. Creatures with the ability to smell can distinctly detect your smell up to 60 feet away. You automatically fail stealth checks against creatures that can smell you, and you have disadvantage on Persuasion, Deception, and Performance checks for creatures that can smell you. Additionally, each creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of you (Including allies) must make a Constitution saving throw unless the creature is a construct or undead. The DC is equal to 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Constitution modifier. On a failed save, the creature is incapacitated until the end of the turn. Creatures that are immune to poison damage or the poisoned condition automatically succeed on this saving throw. On a successful save, the creature is immune to the stench for 24 hours. It is possible to conceal the smell by magical means, such as the spell Obscure Odor (Homebrew content). If you decide to pursue the necromantic arts, you can confer this ability to undead under your control by taking the feat, Confer Stench.
Corpse Eater
You sustain yourself by eating the corpses of humanoids. You cannot regain hit points during a short or long rest unless you consume a humanoid corpse. If you consume a humanoid corpse during a rest, you regain all hit points and hit dice. As an action, you can begin to eat a humanoid corpse. If you do, expend one of your hit dice, roll it, and regain hit points equal to the roll plus your constitution modifier. Corpses do not need to be fresh. After you fully consume a corpse, nothing of the digested body remains. If you go a full week without eating a humanoid corpse, you gain 1 level of exhaustion.
