Homebrew Bear Folk Species Details

The Bear folk are towering, broad-shouldered humanoids covered in thick fur ranging from deep black and rich brown to snowy white and ash-gray. Their heavy paws end in thick claws suited as much for carving wood and shaping stone as for rending foes. Small, rounded ears sit atop powerful heads, and their eyes carry a quiet, assessing intelligence.

Though imposing in stature, Bear folk are not mindless brutes. They are deeply spiritual, community-bound, and guided by ancestral tradition. Most live in tight-knit tribes that dwell in deep forests, rugged mountains, or tundra plains where the land still speaks in wind and claw. Every tribe is led by elders or spirit-speakers who interpret omens, preserve oral history, and ensure balance between the Bearfolk and the natural world.

Strength is respected among the Bearfolk, but endurance and wisdom are honored even more. A warrior who survives many winters earns greater reverence than one who wins many battles. Cubs are raised collectively, taught to hunt, craft, and listen to the old stories around great firepits carved with the marks of past generations.

Bearfolk rarely seek conquest, but they are fiercely protective of their territory and kin. When roused to anger, they fight with relentless ferocity. When at peace, they are patient, contemplative, and surprisingly gentle.
