Homebrew Beaverfolk Species Details
Stout, strongly built humanoids with thick rich fur, powerful teeth, sharp claws, and broad paddle‑tails, the Beaverfolk are a unified people centered around the Great Lodge and the ancient Elderheart Tree. Calm on the surface but carrying deep, hidden strength, they live throughout the surrounding valley and waterways, bound together by craft, community, and the quiet magic of their sacred home.
(This Beaver race is re-flavored Water Genasi)
The Beaverfolk are a unified, close‑knit people who all trace their heritage to a single great dam‑lodge nestled in a misty valley. This monumental structure—part fortress, part home, part living symbol—creates the elevated lake that surrounds the Elderheart Tree, the ancient and impervious heart of Beaverfolk life. Every Beaverfolk is born under the Elderheart Tree's blessing, raised communally, and shaped by the natural order of water, wood, and shared labor.
To outsiders, Beaverfolk may appear gentle or quaint, but their calm surface hides deep currents of strength and resolve. They are pragmatic builders, fierce defenders, and mystic stewards of the Elderheart Tree. They respect nature without romanticizing it: trees are sacred, yet felled to build; predators hunt, and so do they. Balance is their guiding principle, and the Lodge stands because every Beaverfolk understands their role within it.
During a coming‑of‑age rite, the Elderheart Tree may gift a young Beaverfolk a living branch that grows with them throughout their life, reflecting their calling—artisan, cook, warrior, or mystic. When a Beaverfolk dies, their branch is returned to the Elderheart Tree and absorbed, symbolizing their spirit’s return to the community forever.
Beaverfolk adventurers are rare, but those who leave the Lodge carry its teachings with them: quiet strength, deep purpose, and the certainty that still waters are never truly still.
