Homebrew Bickterall Species Details

The Bickterall, originally from the frost lands of the far north, have not forgotten the ice in their blood. Now ranging from the base of the Gron’tier mountains to as close as comfortable to the damned south in the middle of the continent. They are a formidable people group who value freedom, strength, and wisdom.

Physical Description: They are physically similar to the normal human, except their intimidating stature and fabulous hair. (but small compared to many other inhabitants of Atheros. )

Traits: They live on average to 50 but that is due to the rigorous and difficult trails each person must take at 17 years of age. It is sad but not all survive. They are a stubborn people, however will succeed a point with enough evidence against them. They are also known to disdain wasting time,. That being said they understand that there is a time and place for all things including recreation.

Education: It is the tradition of the Bickterall that a child is to be raised by their parents and the village until the age of 15, where they are then sent to a boarding school to learn all that they may need in the life that they seem adept at. Among these lessons is Writing, both in common and their own traditional runes. Honor, for a man is nothing without it. Fighting, for every man and woman must be able to defend themselves from slavers and the like. The Histories, for to know the future one must know the past. Art because the advanced levels of shape magic requires knowledge in form and shape. Mathematics, for all the benefits that that gives.

At the age of 17, there is a great trial to test the children. It is individualized to the person to be both a lesson to correct their worst flaw and reinforcing the best quality, sadly the survival rate is less than 80%. After the trail if they pass their graduation, they earn their magic tattoos (which are secret to the rest of the world ) and enter a new stage of education till age 20, where they either join one of the orders or they return home and take care of their family ,found a new family, or find a trade for the betterment of the Bickterall and the world.

Traditions: the Bickterall believe in a god called Yorsh (a giant mossy elk skeleton). He is a combo of god of nature, and god of good. He is rarely openly active and prefers to control from behind the curtains. They believe that the first human was made from a fair veshtian lass named Vornea who ventured into the forest and fell in love with a forest spirit named Byagga. But because she was so cold to him she couldn't express herself. So he lit a fire in her heart and she burned down into a small child that he called Bajorin. Bajorin grew up in the woods and he learned compassion from the animals. The Bickterall think that their mission from Byagga is to spread good and sustainability.

Sociology/Culture: The Bickterall are ruled by The Council of Twelve , who are elected for their wisdom and because they fight for the people. They in turn are charged with local disputes, enacting justice, and finding the best of the Bickterall to elect him to become the continuation of the Great Born Bork, a person whose ideals and beliefs of the first bork, becoming the Avatar, the Bork candidates are trained and educated to become the best them possible. The Bork is the bickerall ruler, he governs over the people and international affairs. When elected the bork goes through (yet unwritten).

There are three orders, the Order of the Bear , who keep the peace, guard the nation fight wars when needed , and are often involved in local governance of towns or cities, the Order of the Elk, who heal the sick, categorize the natural world,  and go outside their borders to better the world keeping the secrets of the healing and science but still using it to help others. Additionally we have the Order of the Mole who are tasked with digging up smelting and crafting minerals and metals as well as learning mathematics and studying economics. They are master of coin and very good at reading the land. These are the three main orders, each corresponding to (usually) an animal that epitomizes their goal (in concordance with Byagga’s teaching).

The order of the elk have been sent out in order to spread good will, healing from the plague, and learn more of the world around Bellhold. / stopping slavery./ fun.
