Homebrew Dovahkiin Species Details
Mortals touched by the soul of a dragon are known in ancient Nordic legend as Dovahkiin — Dragonborn in the truest sense. Unlike draconic bloodlines or sorcerous ancestry, a Dovahkiin carries the soul of a dragon within them. Their Voice bends reality itself, and the Thu’um answers their will.
Outwardly they resemble their mortal ancestry, but subtle signs betray the power within: a voice that reverberates like distant thunder, eyes that glint with ancient fire, and a presence that unsettles even the bravest warriors.
Dovahkiin Traits
As a Dovahkiin, you possess the following traits.Darkvision
Accustomed to exploring ancient barrows, tombs, and ruins, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions.
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You cannot discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Soul of the Dovah
The soul of a dragon burns within you, granting unnatural resolve and presence. You have advantage on saving throws against being Frightened or Charmed. You cannot be magically aged. When you roll Initiative, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
Thu'um Reservoir
Your mastery of the Voice allows you to draw upon the ancient power of the dragon language.
You possess a number of Voice Charges equal to your Proficiency Bonus. You regain all expended Voice Charges when you finish a Short or Long Rest. Additionally, the power of your Voice surges during battle. When a creature fails a saving throw against one of your Shouts, roll 1d6. On a 5 or 6, you regain 1 expended Voice Charge.
A specific Shout cannot be used again until its cooldown duration has passed, even if you regain Voice Charges. Shouts expend Voice Charges unless otherwise stated.
Dragon Will
The Voice of a dragon commands fear and respect. You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill.
If you already have proficiency in this skill, you instead gain Expertise, allowing you to add double your proficiency bonus to checks made with it.
Dragon Slayer
The dragon soul within you instinctively understands draconic prey. You gain proficiency in Survival.
You have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks made to track dragons or draconic creatures.
Unrelenting Voice
Your Voice carries overwhelming force. When a creature fails a saving throw against one of your Shouts, you may force it to fall Prone.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and regain all uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Draconic Resilience
Your draconic soul refuses to be extinguished. Once per Long Rest, when you would be reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you instead drop to 1 hit point.
