Homebrew Arachnekin Species Details

Arachnekin tower over most humanoids when fully raised, their spider legs allowing them to loom silently over prey. Their many eyes gleam in the dark, reflecting even the faintest light. Their silk is prized across kingdoms for its strength, beauty, and magical conductivity.

Despite their fearsome appearance, not all Arachnekin are monsters. Many live hidden lives among surface folk — cloaked, hooded, or disguised — while others rule deep cavern cities threaded with colossal webs.

Arachnekin Traits

Darkvision, Web Spinner, Eight-Legged Stability, Many-Eyed Awareness, Arachnekin Lineage, and Venomous Bite

Darkvision

Accustomed to life in darkness, you can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Web Spinner

You can produce strong, sticky spider silk from your body.

As an action, you can create one of the following effects in a space within 5 feet of you:

Silk Rope.
You produce up to 30 feet of durable silk rope. This rope functions as normal rope but weighs only half as much. The rope lasts for 24 hours before becoming brittle and unusable.

Binding Web.
You attempt to restrain a creature Large or smaller within reach. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or become restrained by webbing.
A restrained creature can use its action to make a Strength check against the same DC, freeing itself on a success. The webbing has AC 10 and hit points equal to twice your proficiency bonus.

Web Patch.
You cover a 5-foot square with sticky webbing. The area becomes difficult terrain for creatures other than you. The web lasts for 1 hour or until destroyed (AC 10; HP equal to your proficiency bonus).

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Eight-Legged Stability

Your spider body gives you exceptional balance and a low center of gravity.

You have advantage on ability checks and saving throws made to resist being knocked prone or forcibly moved against your will.

Additionally, difficult terrain caused by webs, loose ground, or natural surfaces doesn’t cost you extra movement.

Many-Eyed Awareness

Your multiple eyes give you an uncanny awareness of your surroundings. You never truly “miss” what’s happening around you.

Features:

  1. Keen Senses
    You gain proficiency in Perception.

  • If you already have proficiency, you gain expertise instead (double your proficiency bonus).

  1. 360° Awareness
Because of your multiple eyes, you can’t be surprised while you are conscious.

  2. Motion Detection

You can see creatures and objects in motion up to 30 ft even lightly obscured by fog, mist, or dim shadows.

Static objects may remain hidden, but nothing moving escapes your notice.

  1. Low-Light Advantage

  • You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on sight in dim light, even if it would normally impose disadvantage.

Venomous Bite

Your spider fangs deliver a toxic venom, perfect for taking down prey—or annoying adventurers.

Natural Weapon:

  • Attack: Melee Weapon Attack, Strength or Dexterity modifier + proficiency bonus

  • Reach: 5 ft

  • Damage: 1d6 piercing + 1d4 poison

Special:

  • You can use this attack once per turn.

  • Creatures hit must make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) or take poisoned until the start of your next turn.

Scaling Option (Optional):

  • At higher levels (DM approval), the poison die increases:

    • Level 5: 1d6 poison

    • Level 11: 1d8 poison

    • Level 17: 1d10 poison

An Arachnekin’s Eyes

The eyes of an Arachnekin are more than organs of sight — they are conduits of instinct, memory, and ancient arachnid magic. Arranged in clusters across the brow and temples, these eyes twitch, narrow, and swivel independently, tracking motion, light, and even subtle vibrations in the air. In moments of stress or focus, they may glow faintly, reflecting unseen patterns as if the world itself were woven from threads only they can perceive.

Legends claim the first Arachnekin were granted these eyes by a primordial spider spirit, allowing them not only to hunt with perfect awareness but to bend perception itself into a weapon. Through intense focus, an Arachnekin can channel this latent power outward, projecting webs of force, venomous intent, or terrifying visions directly through their gaze.

Arachnekin Lineage

The Arachnekin are an ancient race, rumored to descend from a pact between humanoid ancestors and an enigmatic spider deity or primordial spirit of the deep. Their lineage is marked by the fusion of humanoid intelligence with arachnid agility, precision, and resilience.

Smallest but most explosive, the Jumping Arachnekin rely on incredible leaps and lightning-fast strikes. Bright patterns and large forward eyes give them a surprisingly expressive face. Their special power is Explosive Leap, As a bonus action, you can jump up to 30 ft horizontally or 15 ft vertically without provoking opportunity attacks. You can use this a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Massive, heavy-bodied spiderfolk built like living tanks. Their presence alone can scatter foes. Titanic Build, you count as one size larger when determining carrying capacity and pushing, dragging, or lifting.

Often sleek and dark with crimson markings, Widows rely on venom, manipulation, and careful planning. Many are nobles, assassins, or political masterminds. Potent Venom, your venomous bite deals 1d6 poison damage instead of 1d4.

Their coloration tends toward sandy browns, pale golds, or muted reds, helping them blend into arid environments. Their humanoid halves are lean and wiry, built for endurance rather than brute force. Large, alert eyes constantly scan for threats, while their posture often seems coiled, ready to spring into motion at any moment. Your body is built for rapid tumbling movement. When a creature you can see hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction to roll up to 20 ft in a straight line without provoking opportunity attacks. If this movement takes you out of the attacker’s reach, the triggering attack deals only half damage. Uses: Proficiency bonus per long rest.

Web Sense, While touching a web you created, you automatically know the location of any creature touching the same web. Masters of traps, ambushes, and massive web structures. Their silk is unnaturally strong and often faintly luminous in darkness.
