Homebrew Thaven Species Details

The Thaven are extraterrestrial wanderers stranded on unfamiliar, moon-lit worlds. Towering between 6.5 and 7.5 feet tall, they possess incredibly lanky frames, sharp elf-like ears, and skin, hair, and eyes in shockingly vibrant, neon hues. Originating from a moonless planet, their alien neurology is highly susceptible to foreign lunar cycles. Because they enter a semi-conscious trance rather than truly sleeping, the gravitational and luminescent pull of the local moon scrambles their minds every night. This celestial interference rewires their brains daily, leaving them bound to randomized, unbreakable behavioral laws and moods every time they wake up.

Thaven Traits

Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 6.5 - 7.5 feet tall)
Speed: 35 feet

As an Thaven, you have these traits.

Age

Thaven reach physical maturity around 20 years old and can live up to 300 years, though their minds often feel much older due to the constant shifting of their daily realities.

Thaven Naming Conventions

Because a Thaven’s mood, personality, and personal laws shift wildly every time they rest, they do not use traditional phonetic names. Instead, a Thaven chooses (or is given) a name that represents a core, unyielding value, an anchor of truth that remains constant no matter what the local moon does to their mind. They are addressed by the full phrase, though close friends might use an acronym or a single word from the phrase as a nickname.

Vibrant Physiology

Your skin, hair, and eyes are wildly vibrant (neon blues, hot pinks, electric greens). You have advantage on saving throws against being Charmed or Frightened, as your alien mind is already a chaotic place for magic to take hold.

Keen Senses

You have proficiency in the Insight, Perception, or Survival skill.

Alien Trance

You do not sleep as native creatures do. Instead, you enter a trance for 4 hours a day, remaining semiconscious. However, you are highly sensitive to the moon's gravity and light, which scrambles your neural pathways during this rest.

Lunar Compulsions

Lunar Compulsions: At the end of every long rest, the moon's influence forces new behavioral laws upon your mind. Roll three times on the Lunar Compulsions table (d100). You must follow these three moods/laws until your next long rest. If you roll conflicting compulsions (e.g., "Must whisper" and "Must shout"), the DM decides how they merge, or you reroll one.

The Lunar Compulsions (d100)

Roll 3d100 after every long rest!
