The first flame kept the world alive but when it went out the ash born had to sacrifice themselves to save the flame.

Ashen one (dark souls) Traits

The Ash Born can teleport to and bonfire it has rested at that is still burning and they can succeed one death saving throw per long rest.

Born of ash

They can teleport to any bonfire they have rested at that is still on fire 

Bound by ash

They can automatically succeed 1 death saving throw per long rest.
