Homebrew Astraen Species Details
The Astraen (The Star-Born)
A secluded, hyper-intelligent race of celestial beings formed from the cosmic dust of the fallen star, acting as the silent, guiding hand behind the Dwarves' metallurgical mastery.
Origin and Habitat
* The Cosmic Arrival: Long before the Dwarves awoke in the deep caverns, the Astraen were born from the celestial cataclysm when a dark star plummeted from the cosmos and buried itself in the rock.
* The Frozen Sanctuary: While the Dwarves burrowed upward to the surface, the Astraen retreated to the absolute highest, lifeless frozen spires of the Iron Peaks.
* Untouched by Time: Hidden far above the glacial fissures of the Dwarven capital of Klaz-Dhum, their mountaintop sanctuary is completely isolated from the chaotic world below.
* A Preserved Era: Because their home is shielded by extreme altitude and eternal ice, their society remains suspended in a state of tranquil perfection, completely untouched by the passing of eras or the horrors of the Fyeal Scourge.
Culture and Intelligence
* Celestial Scholars: Having existed since the Age of Myth, the Astraen are an incredibly ancient and highly educated society focused on observation, philosophy, and cosmic mathematics.
* Arcane Masters: Because they share their origin with the fallen star, they have a flawless, innate understanding of the magical, glowing Fyeal-Iron that laces the mountains.
The Secret Alliance with the Dwarves
* Silent Benefactors: The Dwarven clans are famously isolationist and militaristic, believing they built their civilization entirely on their own.
* Guiding the Forge: The Astraen know that refining Fyeal-Iron—a metal super-charged by unpredictable blight energy—is inherently volatile and dangerous.
* Covert Assistance: To prevent the Dwarves from accidentally destroying the Iron Peaks, the Astraen secretly assist them.
* Hidden Methods: They do this by subtly manipulating the mountain's geothermal vents from their high peaks, or by secretly leaving complex, highly educated metallurgical blueprints in the deep caverns for Dwarven prospectors to "discover".
* The Result: Thanks to this unseen guidance, the Dwarves are able to safely forge their highly sought-after magical Fyeal-Iron tools without realizing they have celestial guardians watching over them.
