Homebrew Brewforged Species Details
Forged in the vat and the cask, the Brewforged are living distilleries. Or, more accurately, living vessels. Crafted from rust-resistant copper, aged oak, and silvered glass, these constructs are infused with a mysterious fermentation magic that fuels their existence. With their creator, the legendary "Master Brewer," missing, the Brewforged remain an enigma; replicable in form, but the alchemy of their spirit-fuel remains not fully understood. While most Warforged struggle with their purpose in peacetime, the Brewforged face a more immediate existential crisis: without a regular intake of strong alcohol, their internal systems begin to stagnate, causing them to malfunction in a state indistinguishable from severe intoxication—they become lethargic, their movements stumble, and their thoughts blur as if drunk, despite having consumed nothing.
Physically, Brewforged are compact and heavy, typically standing between 5 feet 6 inches and 6 feet 6 inches tall, with a broad, cylindrical torso dominated by visible piping, valves, and a large, bulbous "core." Their faces are often made of fused glass or polished metal, through which a faint amber glow pulses, shifting in intensity with their alcohol levels. To organic species, they can be unnerving due to their static expressions and voices that sound like the glug of liquid or the clinking of glass. To compensate, many Brewforged adopt dramatic speech patterns, gesture wildly with their metallic limbs, or are incredibly upfront about their emotional states, often communicating their mood through the scent of their emissions. They are eternal wanderers, constantly seeking the next "cask" to sustain their life, often found in taverns or breweries, serving as strange, loyal companions or living warnings of dependency.
Brewforged Traits
Alcohol-Fueled CoreAbility Score Increase
Your Constitution score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1. The sturdy construction of your body and the social nature of your existence make you resilient and expressive.
Age
Brewforged do not age in the traditional sense. Once constructed, they remain in their prime indefinitely, provided they receive their required fuel. However, without maintenance and alcohol, their systems degrade rapidly.
Alignment
Brewforged tend toward neutrality, focused on the practical necessity of their fuel and the preservation of their own function. However, their dependence on taverns and social hubs often draws them toward the chaotic freedom of communal drinking, while their rigid internal logic can lean them toward lawful structures.
Size
Brewforged are generally shorter and more compact than standard Warforged, with a cylindrical build to house their fluid cores. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet
Constructed Resilience
You were created to have remarkable fortitude. You don't need to eat, breathe, or sleep, but you must consume alcohol to function. You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you are immune to disease. However, you are vulnerable to fire damage due to your flammable internal fluids. Due to their construct nature, Warforged have natural armor.
Alcohol-Fueled Core
- Fuel Requirement: At the end of every long rest, you must consume at least 1 pint of strong alcohol (such as ale, wine, or spirits). If you fail to do so, you gain the Intoxicated condition until you consume alcohol again. This condition imposes a disadvantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws, and your movement speed is halved, simulating a severe system malfunction.
- Overdraft: If you consume more than 3 pints of alcohol in a single day, you must succeed on a DC 12 Constitution saving throw or fall Unconscious for 1 hour as your systems overload and shut down for safety.
- Fermentation: You can use a bonus action to drink a potion or consume alcohol to regain 1d4 + your Constitution modifier hit points, as the fluids reactivate your internal repair mechanisms.
Languages
Additionally, you can speak, read, and write Common. Your voice sounds like the clinking of glass and the glug of liquid, and you can project your voice to be heard clearly even in noisy taverns. Depending on where you were constructed you may add another language.
Integrated Tools
You have a built-in reservoir in your torso that can hold up to 2 pints of liquid. You can draw from this reservoir as a free action to quench your thirst or fuel your core, though it must be refilled regularly.
Weapon Proficiencies
You are proficient with simple weapons and martial bludgeoning weapons
