Homebrew Ascended Kitsune (Nine-Tailed Chronoform) Species Details
Once a human chronurgy wizard, this mage sought to escape the limitations of linear time and mortal form. Through forbidden temporal rituals, illusion magic, and transfiguration magic, she rewrote her own existence... emerging as a Nine-Tailed Kitsune, a creature of myth, magic, and fractured time.
She is no longer fully elf... nor fully beast... nor entirely bound to when she exists.
Ascended Kitsune (Nine-Tailed Chronoform) Traits
Ascended Kitsune are beings of transformed origin, born from powerful magic rather than nature. Their nine spectral tails reflect fragments of altered timelines, granting them abilities that blur the line between illusion and reality. Though often graceful and enigmatic, their existence is marked by instability, as time itself resists the changes that created them.Chrono Surge
Once per long rest, you can push beyond your natural limits by distorting time around you.
On your turn, you can take one additional action.
Once you use this feature, you gain one level of exhaustion.
Memory Fracture
At the DM's discretion, you may receive brief visions of possible futures or alternate timelines. These visions may provide insight, warnings, or misleading information.
Ability Score Increase
Your Intelligence score increases by 2, and your Charisma score increases by 1.
Nine-Tailed Form
You possess spectral fox tails that represent fragments of altered timelines.
You begin play with three tails. You gain additional tails as you level: at 3rd level, 5th level, 7th level, 9th level, 11th level, and 13th level, to a maximum of nine tails.
The number of tails determined by your character level are used to help determine certain other features of this class.
Temporal Echo
When you are hit by an attack roll or fail a saving throw, you can use your reaction to momentarily shift your position in time.
You expend one usage and roll a die, applying the result as follows:
- Subtract the result from the triggering attack roll, potentially causing it to miss.
- Or add the result to your saving throw, potentially turning it into a success.
The die size depends on the number of tails you currently possess:
- 3-4 tails: d6
- 5-8 tails: d8
- 9 tails: d10
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Veil of the Kitsune
You can weave powerful illusions to obscure your true form.
You can cast Disguise Self at will, without expending a spell slot.
Starting at 5th level, you can cast Mirror Image once with this trait, and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.
Starting at 9th level, you can cast Mislead once with this trait, and you regain the ability to do so when you finish a long rest.
Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
Foxfire Manipulation
You know the Produce Flame cantrip. When you cast it using this trait, you can choose for it to deal psychic or force damage instead of fire damage.
Eyes of Many Moments
You perceive glimpses of events before they occur.
You gain proficiency in Insight and the Perception skills.
Temporal Instability
Your existence is not fully anchored in time.
When you finish a long rest, roll a d6 and apply the result:
- 1-2: Time Lag. You have disadvantage on initiative rolls until your next long rest.
- 3-4: Temporal Bleed. Once before your next long rest, the DM can impose disadvantage on one roll you make after seeing the result but before the outcome is determined.
- 5-6: Stable. No effect.
