Homebrew Draconian Vampire Species Details

Vampire dragons have become a lost species, beings of undeath that terrify the masses. Many dragons have sought to pursue this lost power, however the current curse of vampirism only affects humanoids. What was once a problem has created an alternative solution, one that takes a heavy price for an imperfect exchange. While many view the Draconian vampires a failure, some still continue their pursuit of perfection, looking into vampire ascensions to achieve their “true form.”

Draconian vampires are true dragons locked within a humanoid form. The curse of vampirism only changes humanoids, so when a polymorphed dragon becomes infected and dies, they are resurrected as trapped beings. Many draconian vampires are not willing participants, often used as experiments or thralls and bound by a single master. They are much more resilient than traditional vampires, yet they are still bound by certain rules. They cannot enter a home uninvited, and a stake through the heart shall still kill them, although the curse is yet imperfect. Garlic nor running water bothers them, and they are barely affected by crosses or holy ground. Sunlight will still bring them to ash, however they can resist the burning gaze of sunlight for up to 6 hours.

You have the following traits.

Creature Type

You are a Humanoid.

Size

You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you gain this lineage.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Improper Host

Instead of taking damage while within sunlight, you instead have disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks when you are within direct sunlight. Staying within direct sunlight for longer than 6 hours will grant Sunlight Hypersensitivity: taking 20 radiant damage at the start of each turn like a standard vampire.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness as shades of gray.

Natural Armor

your unarmored AC is calculated as 12 + dexterity instead of 10 + dexterity.

Attempted Perfection

You have a climbing speed equal to your speed.

At 3rd level, you can move up, down, and across vertical surfaces and upside down along ceilings, while leaving your hands free. At 5th level, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. To use this speed, you cannot be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Vampiric Bite

Your fanged bite is a natural weapon, which counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. You add your Constitution modifier, instead of your Strength modifier, to the attack and damage rolls when you attack with this bite. It deals 1d4 piercing damage on a hit. While you are missing half or more of your hit points, you have advantage on attack rolls you make with this bite.

When you attack with this bite and hit a creature that isn’t a Construct or an Undead, you can empower yourself and gain health equal to the piercing damage done by the bite. You can empower yourself with this bite a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. At 5th level, this attack ignores weapon properties required by class abilities (I.E. reckless attacks and sneak attack), and at 11th level, this attack is considered magical.

Midnight Predator

Gain proficiency in stealth.
