Homebrew Aitheri (Frisky Fairy) Species Details

Wine, Olives and Polis
The Aitheri are people of the open sky, born to the winds and shaped by the endless horizon. While the folk of *Chessenta* build their cities upon earth and stone, the Aitheri dwell high above them among the drifting clouds. There, suspended over the shining waters of the Sea of Fallen Stars, lies their sky-polis: *Aitheropolis*, the City of the Upper Air.

The city rises like an island in the heavens, its terraces and colonnades opening directly into the sky. Hanging gardens spill with fruit and vines, and narrow waterways feed orchards that thrive in the sunlight above the clouds. Wine and laughter flow freely here, for the Aitheri believe life should be as free as the winds that carry them.
From time to time, their presence is felt by those below. Sailors crossing the Sea of Fallen Stars speak of sudden shadows passing across the water on clear days, a silent reminder that far above the clouds, the skyfolk of Aitheropolis watch the world beneath their wings.

Battle against Harpies
The Aitheri are not strangers to the dangers of the skies. Among the most persistent threats are the monstrous Harpies; savage creatures whose cruelty and hunger have long plagued the coasts and cliffs of the Eastern Faerûn region. To many ground-dwellers, the distinction between the noble skyfolk and these shrieking predators was once unclear.

To remedy this, the Aitheri entered into a pact with few of their ground-dwelling neighbors along the Sea of Fallen Stars. As a gesture of goodwill—and to prove the honor of their people—the Aitheri pledged themselves to the hunting of harpies wherever they threatened ships, villages, or mountain passes.

Aitheri (Frisky Fairy) Traits

Your Aitheri has the following racial traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity or Constitution score increases by 2 (your choice), and your Charisma score increases by 1.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Auran. You also understand the Aitherin dialect.

Creature Type

You are a Humanoid

Alignment

Aitheri culture prizes freedom, reputation, and civic obligation. Many Aitheri lean toward chaotic or good alignments, though individuals vary widely.

Size

You are Medium.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Flight

Because of your wings, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. You can’t use this flying speed if you’re wearing medium or heavy armor.

Talons

Your talons are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. Additionally, you can use your talons to manipulate and hold onto objects or creatures and to perform the somatic components of your spells. You cannot wield weapons with the heavy property unless in your Adapting Form. You can use your talons to initiate and maintain a grapple.

Adapting Form

Your kind was not born with the convenience of hands, but after many generations spent with integrating with human societies, you have learned to shape your form to theirs. As an action, you can change your appearance to that of a human, growing a pair of arms and legs. Otherwise, your sex, voice, height, and general bodily features remain the same. While transformed, you lose your flying speed, and your Talons trait deals bludgeoning damage instead of slashing damage. Your equipment does not change with you. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Each transformation lasts up to an hour, after which you return to your Aitherin form.

Child of the Skies

You learn the gust cantrip and strong winds do not impose disadvantage on checks you make to fly.
