Homebrew Wood Woad Species Details

All members of this race were created to protect nature in a dark druid ritual where the personality and body of the victim is traded for immortality and strength.

Wood Woad Traits

While you share many features with other Wood Woads, you have diverged enough to think for yourself and act according to your own will.

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Wisdom score is increased by 1.

Age

As part of the ritual that created Wood Woads they are made immortal. They do not age.

Alignment

When created a Wood Woad simply does as its creators specified, regardless of the task. Over time they may grow to prefer one way or another but remain mostly neutral.

Size

The height of a Wood Woad depends on the tree it was made from but they generally range from 4 to 7 feet tall and weight 150 to 400 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Barkskin Armor

Your body is covered in a hard and thick bark which helps prevent damage. Your base AC is 16 and you cannot wear armor nor gain AC from your Dexterity ability score.

Plant Camouflage

Due to your body's look and color you can easily hide among the trees and bushes. You have advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made in any terrain with ample obscuring plant life.

Living Wood

Because your body is made of living wood you are susceptible to any effect that specifies plants. In addition, you are vulnerable to fire damage. You do not require food to survive but you must have sunlight. If you go a week without sunlight or a similar source of light, you will die of starvation.

Rooted Regeneration

While you are in contact with the ground, if you have not moved yet this turn, you can use your bonus action to become Rooted or Unrooted. While you are Rooted your speed is reduced to 0, you cannot be forced to move, you have disadvantage on any Dexterity Saving Throws, and at the end of each of your turns while Rooted you roll a die equal to the size of one of your hit dice. You regain that many hit points. This trait does not function if you have taken fire damage since the end of your last turn.

Natural Arms

As an action you can turn one or both hands into one of the following: club,  shield, shortbow, 3 arrows. All are made entirely of wood. You cannot be disarmed of these items. You automatically have proficiency in these items.

Tree Stride

As a bonus action, you can spend 15 feet of movement to magically step into one living tree within 5 feet and emerge from a second living tree within 60 feet that you can see, appearing in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of the second tree. Both trees must be Large or bigger. You may only do this again after a long rest.
