Homebrew 🐦 Aarakocra : Picari Species Details

Smaller and slenderer compared to their relatives,  the Picari are highly sociable birdfolk renowned for an intellect that borders on the uncanny. Their profound self-awareness and adaptable minds fuel an insatiable curiosity, driving them to form tight-knit bands that rely on complex, cooperative strategies. With a natural aptitude for crafting tools and a flawless memory for caching their discoveries across the seasons, they are both meticulous planners and opportunistic scavengers. Despite a penchant for elaborate social rituals and mischievous schemes, these agile wanderers are widely recognized as the most cunning and inventive of their cousins.

Appearance. Picari differ from their Aarakocra cousins by virtue of a sleek, lithe build and graceful proportions resembling that of the Tethyrian magpie, appearing smaller and more slender than many of their kin. Their plumage is soft pale gray to off-white across the body, set against a glossy black cap, face, and throat, while their wings and especially their long tail feathers shine with vivid blue tones that catch greenish iridescence in the light. The overall effect is elegant rather than imposing: a sharp-featured, long-tailed birdfolk form marked by high contrast, refined lines, and flashes of brilliant color.

As a Picari, you have certain traits in common with your people, the Aarakocra. Being able to fly at high speeds at Level 1 is exceptionally effective in certain circumstances and exceedingly dangerous in others. As a result, playing a Picari warrants a conversation with your DM about how to balance and handle you playing one.
