Homebrew Alabastrin Species Details

The Alabastrin

Often mistaken by travelers for an isolated, albino sect of elves, the Alabastrin are not fey in the slightest. They are the result of human evolution pushed to its absolute precipice. Centuries ago, a bloodline of humans settled at the epicenter of a massive spatial anomaly. Over generations, their bodies and minds adapted to survive the crushing pressure of raw, unfiltered magic, resulting in a permanent alteration to their physiology and an inherent mastery over the fabric of space.

Physical Appearance & Ancestry

The Alabastrin are defined by a startling, ethereal beauty. They possess lithe frames and sharp, elegant facial features that closely mimic elven physiology, a prime example of magical convergent evolution.

Their most striking features are their colors: stark, snow-white and vibrant green/red. Their skin is extremely pale, resembling polished alabaster or chalk, and their hair is uniformly bone-white. In sharp contrast, their eyes are a piercing, glowing color. When an Alabastrin utilizes their innate magic, their eyes flare with brilliant viridian light, and the spatial distortions they create manifest as geometric ripples of white and colorful energy.

Though their magical evolution bleached their coloring, the underlying bone structure, hair textures, and facial features of the Alabastrin proudly display their human roots. Because the original human settlers who braved the spatial anomaly hailed from two distinct continents, modern Alabastrin typically fall into one of five broad ancestral heritages:

A Mind Burdened by the Weave

Because of their evolved, hyper-perceptive eyes, the Alabastrin take in massive amounts of environmental and magical data every second. To process this without losing their minds, their brains have evolved to operate at staggering speeds. Consequently, many Alabastrin wear blindfolds, veils, or dark glasses when resting or casually socializing to limit the overwhelming influx of visual information.

As a Alabastrin, you have these special traits.

Skillful

You gain proficiency in one skill of your choice.

Versatile

You gain an Origin feat of your choice.

The Viridian Sight

Your glowing green eyes see the world in terms of mass, magic, and spatial distance. This grants you two states of perception based on how much data you allow your brain to process:

  • Veiled Sight (Passive): While your eyes are covered by a blindfold, veil, or dark glasses, you still perceive the world with uncanny clarity. You gain expertise in the Perception skill, which means your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses it. You also permanently possess Truesight out to a range of 15 feet.

  • Viridian Sight Unleashed (Active): As a bonus action, you can remove your eye coverings, unleashing the full, terrifying potential of your eyes. For 5 minute, you gain the following benefits:

    • Your Truesight expands to a massive range of 120 feet.

    • You perceive solid objects as ghostly, transparent outlines, allowing you to see through walls (up to 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, or up to 3 feet of wood or dirt).

    • You have advantage on all Perception checks.

    • The Strain: Processing this much raw spatial and magical data is incredibly taxing on your evolved brain. When this 5-minute duration ends, you must immediately cover your eyes as a bonus action or gain one level of exhaustion. Once you unleash your sight, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
