Homebrew Chinocchio Species Details

Chinocchios are sharp‑featured humanoids known for their extraordinary chins—long, bony extensions that hang to their waist and are kept razor‑sharp through constant maintenance. The tip of the chin is exposed bone, while the rest is covered in toughened skin. Though impressive in size, the chin is not ornamental; it serves as both a natural weapon and a protective plate, forming a central part of Chinocchio culture and identity.

As a Chinocchio grows, their chin evolves through distinct stages. Young Chinocchios bear a simple bone chin, but with age and discipline it becomes infused with iron, then silvered, and finally hardened into adamantine. These transformations are natural, not magical, and are seen as sacred milestones granted by their creator‑god, Chinhammer.

Despite their intimidating appearance, Chinocchios are gentle, peaceful people with a deep connection to nature. They value harmony, craftsmanship, and the careful upkeep of their chin, which must be sharpened regularly to prevent overgrowth and dullness. Their long, streamlined chins also aid in swimming, making them comfortable in coastal and river regions.

Chinocchios rarely pursue arcane study, but many develop simple chin‑based techniques passed down through tradition. Depending on their chosen path, some Chinocchios learn martial disciplines similar to fighters, while others follow druidic practices tied to the natural world. Regardless of their calling, all Chinocchios carry the legacy of Chinhammer and the pride of their ever‑growing, ever‑sharpened chin.

Chinocchio Traits

Chinocchios possess powerful natural abilities centered around their long, sharpened chin. Their chin serves as both a natural weapon and a protective plate, evolving in strength and material as they grow. These traits reflect their physical adaptations, cultural traditions, and connection to the god Chinhammer.

Classless Species

Classless Species
Chinocchios do not use a class. Due to platform limitations on D&D Beyond, you must select the Fighter class during character creation, but you do not gain any features, proficiencies, or spellcasting from that class.

Fighter Override Instructions
Because D&D Beyond requires every character to select a class, all Chinocchio characters must choose Fighter at level 1. However, Chinocchios do not use the Fighter class in any way except for its hit die. The Fighter class exists only to satisfy platform requirements. Make the following adjustments when creating your character:

MANDATORY CLASS SETUP
• Set your Fighter level to 1 and never increase it.
• Disable or ignore all Fighter class features (Fighting Style, Second Wind, etc.).
• Ignore all Fighter subclass options.

PROFICIENCY BONUS (USE THESE NUMBERS)
Use the Chinocchio proficiency bonus progression instead of the Fighter progression:
• Levels 1–4: +2
• Levels 5–8: +3
• Levels 9–12: +4
• Levels 13–16: +5
• Levels 17–20: +6

SAVING THROWS (USE THESE NUMBERS)
Ignore Fighter saving throws (Strength and Constitution).
Chinocchios use:
• Dexterity saving throws: Proficient
• Wisdom saving throws: Proficient
• All other saving throws: Not proficient

Saving throw bonus = Ability Modifier + Proficiency Bonus (if proficient)

HIT POINTS (USE THESE RULES)
Chinocchios keep the Fighter hit die (d10) for durability.
Use the following HP rules:

• Level 1 HP = 10 + Constitution modifier
• Each level after 1 = 6 + Constitution modifier
• PLUS your Chinocchio bonus: +1 HP per level

Total HP gained per level = 7 + Constitution modifier

Chinocchios do not use Fighter features when calculating HP.

INITIATIVE
Your initiative bonus is:
• Dexterity modifier
• + any Chinocchio bonuses
Ignore Fighter bonuses.

PASSIVE PERCEPTION
Your passive Perception is:
• 10 + Wisdom modifier
• + Proficiency Bonus (ONLY if your Chinocchio traits grant Perception proficiency)

PROFICIENCIES
Remove all Fighter-granted proficiencies:
• All armor proficiencies
• All weapon proficiencies
• All saving throw proficiencies
• All skill proficiencies

Use only the proficiencies granted by your Chinocchio species traits.

SKILLS
Ignore Fighter skill choices.
Use only the skills granted by your Chinocchio species.

HIT DICE
You keep the Fighter hit die (d10).
You may roll a d10 during rests as normal.

ARMOR CLASS (USE THIS FORMULA)
Your AC is calculated using Chinocchio traits, not Fighter rules.

Base AC = 13 + Dexterity modifier
Add Chin Evolution bonus based on your level:
• Levels 1–4: +1 AC
• Levels 5–8: +2 AC
• Levels 9–12: +2 AC
• Levels 13–16: +3 AC
• Levels 17–20: +4 AC

Add stance bonuses if active:
• Defensive Stance: +1 AC
• Offensive Stance: –1 AC

LEVELING UP
When you gain a level:
• Increase your CHARACTER LEVEL only.
• Do NOT increase your Fighter level.
• New features come only from Chinocchio species traits.

SUMMARY
All combat abilities, spellcasting, hit points, saving throws, proficiencies, and level-based progression come entirely from the Chinocchio species. The Fighter class is a placeholder and provides no benefits except for its hit die.

Chin Strike

Your chin is a natural melee weapon you are proficient with. It counts as an unarmed strike for all class features and effects, and it has the Finesse property. When you hit with it, you deal damage according to your level, following the Chin Strike Damage Table below.

Chin Strike Damage Table:
Level 1: 1d10
Level 2: 1d10 + 5
Level 3: 2d10
Level 4: 2d10 + 5
Level 5: 2d10 + 10

Level 6: 3d10
Level 7: 3d10 + 5
Level 8: 3d10 + 10
Level 9: 3d10 + 15
Level 10: 3d10 + 20

Level 11: 4d10
Level 12: 4d10 + 5
Level 13: 4d10 + 10
Level 14: 4d10 + 15
Level 15: 4d10 + 20

Level 16: 5d10
Level 17: 5d10 + 5
Level 18: 5d10 + 10
Level 19: 5d10 + 15
Level 20: 5d10 + 20

Your Chin Strike damage increases as your chin evolves through its natural material stages (Normal, Iron, Silver, Adamantine), but the table above already includes all scaling.

Chin Armor

When you are not wearing armor, your AC = 13 + Dex modifier + Chin Evolution bonus + stance bonus (if any). You can still use a shield.

Chin Maintenance

Your chin is a living weapon that requires regular upkeep to maintain its sharpness, structure, and combat effectiveness. Through instinctive grooming rituals and natural regenerative processes, you keep your chin in peak condition.

Dulling:
You can use your Chin Strike a number of times equal to 10 + your proficiency bonus before it becomes Dull. While Dull, your Chin Strike deals half damage (rounded down).

Sharpening:
Sharpening your chin takes 1 minute of focused effort using a whetstone, river stone, or any abrasive surface. This restores your chin to full sharpness. You regain all uses when you finish a long rest.

Chin Regrowth:
If your chin is ever broken, shattered, severed, or magically suppressed, it regrows to full strength after you finish a long rest. This regrowth restores all Chin Evolution benefits and returns your chin to its proper material stage (Normal, Iron, Silver, or Adamantine).

Chin Conditioning:
Whenever you finish a long rest, you may choose one conditioning effect to apply to your chin until your next long rest:

• Honed Edge — Your Chin Strike gains a +1 bonus to attack rolls.
• Reinforced Structure — You gain temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.
• Balanced Weight — You gain advantage on the first Acrobatics or Athletics check you make each day.

These rituals are a natural part of Chinocchio culture and are considered essential to maintaining both physical and spiritual balance.

Chin Techniques

Your chin is not merely a weapon—it is a disciplined martial instrument capable of specialized techniques. You learn the following Chin Techniques at the levels shown. These techniques are not spells, but they function similarly for the purpose of tracking uses and activation. You use your Strength or Dexterity modifier (your choice) for attack rolls and damage rolls made with these techniques.

You can use each Chin Technique a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Level 1 — Chin Tap:
A quick, precise strike that disrupts an enemy’s stance. As a bonus action, make a Chin Strike. If it hits, the target’s speed is reduced by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.

Level 5 — Chin Anchor:
You slam your chin downward, rooting yourself. As an action, you gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage until the start of your next turn.

Level 9 — Silver Flash:
Your chin moves with blinding speed. As a bonus action, make a Chin Strike. If it hits, you deal an additional 2d6 damage and the target has disadvantage on the next attack roll it makes before the end of its next turn.

Level 13 — Adamantine Drill:
You thrust your chin forward with unstoppable force. As an action, make a Chin Strike. If it hits, the attack deals an additional 3d10 damage and ignores resistance to bludgeoning damage.

Level 17 — Apex Breaker:
Your chin becomes a force of mythic destruction. As an action, make a Chin Strike. If it hits, the attack deals an additional 4d10 damage and the target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier) or be stunned until the end of your next turn.

Chin Feats

Your chin’s unique physiology allows you to learn specialized feats that enhance your natural abilities. When you gain an Ability Score Improvement, you may choose one of the following Chin Feats instead of a standard feat or ASI. You must meet the level requirement for each feat.

Chin Paths

Your chin follows one of two ancient traditions: the disciplined martial path of the Ironjaw Fighter, or the primal, nature‑bound path of the Verdant Chin Druid. Choose one Chin Path at 1st level. You gain additional features from your chosen path at levels 5, 9, 13, and 17.

Chin Masteries

Your chin develops specialized combat masteries as you grow in power. These masteries enhance your Chin Strike in unique ways. You gain the following Chin Masteries at the levels shown.

Level 1 — Push:
When you hit a creature with a Chin Strike, you may push it 5 feet away from you. You may use this mastery a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Level 5 — Rattle:
When you hit a creature with a Chin Strike, you may impose disadvantage on its next attack roll before the end of its next turn. You may use this mastery a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Level 9 — Break:
When you hit a creature with a Chin Strike, you may reduce its AC by 1 until the start of your next turn. You may use this mastery a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.

Level 13 — Stagger:
When you hit a creature with a Chin Strike, you may force it to make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + PB + STR/DEX mod). On a failure, it is stunned until the end of your current turn. You may use this mastery once per short or long rest.

Level 17 — Ruin:
When you hit a creature with a Chin Strike, you may deal an additional 2d10 damage and ignore resistance to bludgeoning damage. You may use this mastery once per long rest.

Chin Stances

Your chin can shift between specialized combat stances, each emphasizing a different aspect of your chin’s power. You may enter a stance at the start of your turn, and the stance lasts until the start of your next turn. You may change stances freely each turn.

You gain access to the following Chin Stances:

Offensive Stance:
Your chin becomes a weapon of pure aggression. You gain a +2 bonus to damage rolls made with your Chin Strike, but you have a –1 penalty to AC.

Defensive Stance:
Your chin becomes a shield-like bulwark. You gain a +1 bonus to AC, but your Chin Strike deals 2 fewer damage.

Balanced Stance:
Your chin flows with natural equilibrium. You gain advantage on the first Athletics or Acrobatics check you make each turn.

Precision Stance:
Your chin sharpens to a razor point. You gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls made with your Chin Strike.

Momentum Stance:
Your chin builds kinetic force. If you move at least 10 feet before making a Chin Strike, you deal an additional 1d6 damage on a hit.

Chin Lore & Flavor

The Chinocchio are a proud and ancient people whose chins are both a physical feature and a spiritual symbol. Their culture is built around discipline, craftsmanship, and the belief that one’s chin reflects one’s inner strength.

Appearance:
Chinocchio resemble humanoids of any ancestry, but their chins are dramatically pronounced, angular, or sculpted. A Chinocchio’s chin may be stone-like, metallic, wooden, crystalline, or naturally grown depending on their lineage and training.

Culture:
Chinocchio communities value discipline, meditation, and the honing of one’s chin. Young Chinocchio undergo a rite of passage known as the First Sharpening, where they learn to shape their chin’s form and purpose. Elders are revered for the wisdom etched into the lines of their chins.

Naming Traditions:
Chinocchio names often reference strength, geometry, or craftsmanship. Common given names include:
• Marnok, Vellin, Jorrah, Kintar, Shava, Orlune, Tessel, Brakka
Family names often reference chin lineage:
• Stonejaw, Ironchin, Deepcut, Sharpline, Broadforge, Splitpeak

Origins:
Legends claim the first Chinocchio was sculpted by a forgotten artisan-god who believed the chin was the seat of courage. Others say they evolved naturally in lands where the earth’s magic hardened bone and spirit alike.

Roleplaying a Chinocchio:
• You may speak of your chin as if it has a personality or destiny.
• You may reference daily rituals of sharpening, polishing, or meditating upon your chin.
• You may treat your chin as a symbol of honor, discipline, or spiritual focus.
• You may incorporate your chin into greetings, challenges, or vows.

Chin Philosophy:
Chinocchio believe that the chin is the anchor of the soul. A strong chin reflects a strong will. A balanced chin reflects a balanced life. A damaged chin reflects lessons yet to be learned.

Whether you follow the martial Ironjaw path, the primal Verdant path, or forge your own destiny, your chin is both your burden and your glory.

Chinocchio Skill Proficiencies

You gain proficiency in two of the following skills: Acrobatics, Athletics, Perception, Nature, Survival. Be sure to custom add these to your character sheet.

Bone Chin

You gain a +1 bonus to AC. Your chin counts as nonmagical bone for overcoming resistances.
