Homebrew Caninefolk - Enhanced Senses Species Details

Caninefolk are humanoids with canine features, blessed with remarkable senses that make them exceptional hunters, trackers, and scouts. Their keen noses, sharp ears, and ability to see in low light give them a significant edge in both wilderness and urban environments.

Caninefolk - Enhanced Senses Traits

You have the following species traits as a Caninefolk.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 30 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Keen Smell

You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) and Intelligence (Investigation) checks that rely on smell. Additionally, you can attempt to identify a creature, object, or location you have previously encountered by scent alone (no check required if you've encountered it within the last 24 hours; DC 12 Perception otherwise).

Acute Hearing

You have advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing. You also cannot be surprised while you are conscious, unless you are deafened.

Sensory Overload

Optional Tradeoff: If you are subjected to a strong, overwhelming smell (such as a stinkpot, certain spells, or a skunk-like creature), you have disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks until the start of your next turn (or until you leave the area).

Powerful Bite

Species Weapon - Powerful Bite
