Homebrew Cyberfolk Species Details

Cyberfolk are beings of crafted flesh and hidden design—artificial humanoids infused with arcane-born souls. Created rather than born, they are engineered to resemble humans so perfectly that most pass unnoticed among mortal societies. Beneath their lifelike skin, however, lies a network of subtle enhancements: heightened perception, precise movement, and internal systems that blur the line between magic and machine.

Though they think, feel, and dream as any other person might, Cyberfolk are often haunted by the knowledge of their origin. Their souls, while real, are not naturally formed, but forged through arcane means—raising questions of identity, purpose, and what it truly means to be alive.

Many Cyberfolk choose to conceal their nature, living quietly among other races to avoid suspicion or fear. Discovery can bring mistrust, as others may see them as imposters, constructs, or something unnatural. In moments of intense stress or emotion, their disguise can falter—voices may distort, movements become too precise, or faint signs of their inner workings reveal themselves.

Despite this, Cyberfolk are not devoid of humanity. They form bonds, pursue purpose, and struggle with the same desires and fears as those around them. Some seek to prove their place in the world, while others embrace what they are, walking the fine line between creation and personhood.

Cyberfolk Traits

Built with arcane souls and refined through hidden augmentation, Cyberfolk exhibit abilities that surpass natural limits. Their bodies house integrated systems that enhance perception, movement, and resilience.

System Calibration

Instead of sleeping, you enter a motionless state of internal calibration for 4 hours. During this time, you remain conscious and aware of your surroundings, though you are otherwise inactive. After completing this period, you gain the same benefits that a humanoid does from 8 hours of sleep, completing a long rest. While in this state, faint signs of your internal systems—such as subtle light beneath the skin or soft mechanical tones—may become perceptible.

 

Processing Lag

Your artificial cognition struggles to interpret emotional nuance and instinctive social cues. You have disadvantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks that rely on reading emotions, sarcasm, or subtle social behavior.

Augmented Precision

Your mind processes information with unnatural accuracy and efficiency. You have advantage on Intelligence (Investigation) checks, particularly when analyzing mechanical objects, patterns, or logical inconsistencies.

Thruster Burst

Starting at 5th level, you can activate integrated thrusters embedded within your body. As a bonus action, you gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed for 1 minute. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest. While this ability is active, your movement is stabilized by internal systems, allowing controlled bursts of aerial maneuverability.

Synthetic Nature

Your body is sustained by internal systems rather than natural biological processes. You do not need to eat or drink, though you can do so if you wish.
