Homebrew Deep Locathah Species Details

Deep Locathah vary from their shallow water cousins from how they look, to how they interact with the world, and even to how they set up their society. The Deep Locathah tend to be darkly colored to better blend in with the dark surroundings, their skin colors ranging from dark blues and purples to even grays and blacks, with spots of bioluminescent speckled across their forms. Much like anglerfish, they have protruding underbites and daunting long teeth that can retract backwards into their mouths. Female Deep Locathah typically tend to be much larger than their male counterparts, and sport long, glowing lures off of their foreheads, both utilized to lure prey, disorient attackers, and attract mates. They prefer to stay away from the chaotic surface dwellers, preferring the remote, dark depths of the deep sea where they keep to their own pods. They typically are matriarchal in their social structure, with the smaller males tending to the young while the females participate in hunting for food and protecting the pod.

They tend to be much more aggressive than their shallow waters cousins, typically on high alert if an unwelcomed outsider approaches and being of the mindset "Attack first, ask questions if they survive."

Ability Score Increase

Your Strength score increases by 2 and your Dexterity score increases by 1.

Armor of the Depths

You have tough, scaly skin that protects you from the crushing pressure of the deep sea. When you aren’t wearing armor, your AC is 13 + your Constitution modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield’s benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor.

You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, frightened, paralyzed, poisoned, stunned, or put to sleep.

Limited Amphibiousness

You can breathe air and water, but you need to be submerged at least once every 4 hours to avoid suffocating. 

Eyes of the Depths

Due to living in the inky depths of the sea, your eyes are made for low light, and senses adept to tracking prey without the light making you a dangerous foe in the dark. You have Darkvision extending 120 feet and Blindsight extending 10 feet.

Bioluminescent Lure

Using your bioluminescent lure, as a reaction when a creature you can see makes an attack roll against an ally within 10 feet of you, you can use your reaction to force a WIS save. On a fail, you become the new target.

Female Deep Locathah typically stand between 6 and 8 feet tall and average about 170 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Male Deep Locathah typically stand between 4 and 5 feet tall and average around 120 pounds. Your size is Small to Medium.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet, and you have a swim speed of 30 feet.
