Homebrew Draechari Species Details

Draechari are neither dragons who became human nor humans who inherited draconic blood. They are something of their own — a species that has existed for generations, drawn to neither side entirely. Their draconic heritage manifests differently in every individual: some bear scales woven into their skin at the shoulders, cheekbones, or forearms; others grow a pair of horns that conduct sound and vibration in ways difficult to articulate; still others carry a long draconic tail, or some combination of all three. No two Draechari look quite alike, and none are required to. What they share is not a fixed appearance but a common origin — and the bichromatic eyes that mark every one of them, two distinct colored rings around the pupil, varying by ancestry. Those eyes are usually what others notice first. Draechari learn early that they end conversations before they begin. Most have made their peace with it. By nature patient and perceptive, Draechari are often the ones in a group who sense when something is wrong before anyone else names it. When genuinely provoked, their response is not rage — it is draconic energy, focused and unambiguous.

Draechari Traits

By nature patient and perceptive, Draechari are often the ones in a group who sense when something is wrong before anyone else names it. When genuinely provoked, their response is not rage — it is draconic energy, focused and unambiguous.

Draconic Senses

Your draconic lineage sharpens your awareness beyond what most humanoids can perceive. You have Advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing, and you can sense the presence of creatures within 10 feet of you without line of sight, provided they are not behind total cover. This sense does not function while you are Deafened. You also have Darkvision out to 60 feet.

Draconic Resilience

Your draconic lineage fortifies your body's natural defenses. While you are not wearing armor, your AC equals 13 + your Dexterity modifier. Armor can still be worn normally but replaces this value entirely when worn.

Draconic Ancestry

Choose one of the following Ancestries at character creation. Your choice determines the damage type of your Draconic Burst. The eye colors and scale sheens listed below describe what Draechari of each ancestry typically exhibit — common patterns passed down through lineage rather than fixed rules. Individual Draechari may display these traits differently, more faintly, or not at all. Work with your DM to decide what feels right for your character.

Draconic Burst

As a Magic action, you release a concentrated surge of draconic energy. Choose one of the following shapes: Line. 30 feet long, 5 feet wide. Cone. 15 feet. Each creature in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, a creature takes 2d8 damage of your Ancestry type and suffers a secondary effect (see below). On a successful save, it takes half damage and no secondary effect. You can use Draconic Burst a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, regaining all uses on a Long Rest. The damage increases to 3d8 at Level 5, 4d8 at Level 11, and 5d8 at Level 17.
