Homebrew Castcoon Species Details

History

Hailing from magically dense lands, Castcoons are long descended from raccoons that lived near strong concentrations of natural magic that hanged them over time. These Castcoons are innately magical now, using their tails as their arcane focuses. Their stripes glow with the color of their mana, displaying the magical talent they wield.

Society

Castcoons often form covens that will build societies far from civilization where they can share their magical gifts and hone them. They like to live in isolation and avoid larger species and their strange social customs. While they are capable of speech, they are not used to using speech among their own; Castcoons mostly communicate using a mixture of sign language, body language, chitters and growls mostly.

Castcoon Names

Castcoons are nameless until they discover their cantrip and will receive a clan name that is associated with their magic. Examples: Firebolt Clan members may be named Soot or Singe, Mending Clan members may be named Fixit or Gear, and Message Clan members may be named Lyric or Rhyme, etc.

Life Span

Castcoons live short but meaningful lives dedicated to the practice of their arcane gifts. The average life span is approximately 10-15 years but can live to be as old as a few decades.

Height and Weight

Castcoons are barely larger than true raccoons, but as they have adapted to standing and moving on two legs they seem larger. As such, they stand around 2-4 feet tall, weigh around 20-40 lbs, and are considered Small.
