Homebrew Alternative Hexblood Species Details

Spawned from the hags strewn about the multiverse, Hexbloods use their umbral connection to forge their path in life. With some dedicating themselves to the coven of their progenitor, while others liberate themselves from their fellow hags. No matter their choice, the hexbloods always possess their talent for charms, hexes, and glamours. Many that wish to empower their innate magical cunning do so through magical study, and are known to make up some of the most renowned Wizards, Druids, Warlocks, and Sorcerers.

A Hexblood's appearance can vary greatly between one another, though often share traits with the Hag that spawned them. Those born of Shellycoats often possess a sickly greenish tone to their skin, and have hair like that of overgrown moss. Descendants of Night hags might bare coal-gray horns atop their head, dark-purplish skin, and talons at the end of each fingers. While children of Sea Hags might have pallid, fish-like flesh, webbed digits, and hair akin to seaweed. Each Hexblood can manipulate the features inherent to them to accentuate their traits, whether that be by heightening the allure of their appearance, or twisting their visage into ghastly grotesqueness.

Hexblood Traits

Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 4–7 feet tall)
Speed: 30 feet

As an Hexblood, you have these special traits.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.

Mutable Visage

As a Magic action, you can shift your appearance to one of two umbral visages: Absolute Allure or Grotesque Hideousness. When you do so, you can reshape, adjust, add onto, and change the size of your features to fit your state.

This does not allow you to change your appearance to appear as another creature however, and you share a clear visual likeness across all your visages.

The following effects occur depending on your choice:

  • Absolute Allure. You have Advantage on Persuasion checks against creatures that are friendly or indifferent to you, so long as they are within 5 feet.
  • Grotesque Hideousness. You have Advantage on Intimidation checks.

You stay in this new form until you take an action to revert to your true form.

Eerie Token

As a Bonus Action, you can remove a tiny non-vital body part and imbue it with with your umbral magic.

When you do so, you choose one of the following charms for the token:

  • Distant Whisper. As an Action, you can send a telepathic message to the creature holding or carrying the token. The message can contain up to twenty five words, and once you have sent this message, you cannot send another until 10 minutes have passed.
  • Hag Sight. As an Action, you can enter a trance-like state in which you can see and hear from the token as if you were located where it is. While you are using your senses at the token's location, you are blinded and deafened in regard to your own surroundings. This lasts until you are incapacitated, the token is destroyed, or you dismiss the trance as a Bonus Action.
  • Hexing Charm. Choose an ability Score. When a creature holding or carrying the token next makes an ability check or saving throw with this Ability score, they subtract 1d6 from their roll. Afterwards the token is harmlessly destroyed.

This token crumbles to dust and is destroyed if it is ever more than 10 miles away from you, if you use this trait to create another Eerie Token, or whenever you finish a long rest. After the token is destroyed, you immediately regrow the missing body part.
