Homebrew Deep Oceanid Species Details
Born of the sea’s deepest magic, Deep Oceanids are the gentle giants of aquatic folk said to descend from primordial water spirits, same as their cousins. They live deep oceanic trenches, shrouded in darkness and high pressures, ruling their tribes with care and efficiency.
Cousins of the regal and gentle Oceanids Nawa is more accustomed to encountering. These Oceanids are molded to have rougher, more imposing bodies due to their environment. Losing their regal composure in exchange of imposing physiques adapted to surviving in the deepest corners of the ocean. Despite this, these Oceanids are no less gentle than their cousins, willing to commune with, and form beneficial partnerships with fellow Oceanids and surface folk alike. However due to their affinity to life in darker, heavier waters, they are rarer to encounter above the seas.
Deep Oceanid Traits
Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 6–8 feet tall)
Speed: 30 feet
Amphibious
You can breathe both water and air.
Darkvision
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were in dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.
Deep Sea Gigantism
Starting at character level 5, you can increase your size by one category (from medium to large, for example) if you’re in a big enough space. This transformation lasts for 10 minutes or until you end it (no action required). For that duration, you have Advantage on Strength checks, and your Speed increases by 10 feet. Once you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Turning the Tides
When you are targeted by an attack or forced to make a saving throw, you can use your reaction to summon a 10 foot radius sphere of water, centered on yourself, fully submerging you. The water holds its shape magically, hovering in place. A creature can enter and exit the water as it normally would. At the end of your next turn, the water loses its shape, crashing to the ground and spreading outward.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
