Homebrew Bonefolk Species Details
In all my adventuring I'd never seen anything like it. Skeletons... walking, talking, acting civilised. It was unnatural enough that they were supposed to be dead but to see them living the way anyone else would was simply unsettling.
Dow Nunder, Underdark Explorer
Bonefolk come about in many ways: a necromancer having died while its skeletons still "live", one's will being powerful enough to overcome their undead instincts, or a soul inhabiting a vessel of bone. Whatever the cause may be, bonefolk are much more than just skeletons who manage to retain their humanity.

Creature Type
You are an undead.
Deathless Nature
You are living in death, a fact represented by the following benefits:
- You have advantage on saving throws against disease and being - poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
- You have advantage on death saving throws.
- You don't need to eat, drink, or breathe.
- You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep. You can finish a long rest in 6 hours if you spend those - hours in an inactive, motionless state, during which you retain consciousness.
Bobblehead
You cannot be killed by decapitation. You may attach or detach your head at will. Damage done to your head or body when seperated still reduces your hit points. You always know the distance and direction to your head unless it is on another plane, however your body is considered blinded if your head is not within 30 feet of it and cannot see it. Your head and body can still casts spells, that do not require somatic and verbal components respectively, so long as they have the materials or a focus nearby.
Lend a Hand
You can detach your arms at will. Damage done to your arms or body when separated still reduces your hit points. A detached arm has a walking speed of 5 ft. You can also use your arm as a weapon. When used as a weapon, your arm does 1d6 bludgeoning damage and counts as a weapon with the finesse property, that you are proficient in. However when an arm is detached, you have disadvantage on checks made to grapple.
Bone Pile
When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. If you do, you reduce yourself to a pile of bones, render yourself prone, and are considered to be under a similar effect to the Feign Death spell. While subnject to this condition, you are unable to move or take actions other than using an action to end this effect. You can't use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
