Homebrew Dark Lizardfolk Species Details
The ancestors of dark lizardfolk were hatched in damp, dreary swamps. According to legend, the first dark lizardfolk came into life underneath the Varkaes tree, a massive, dark, and mystical plant where reptiles, amphibians, and insects all share cohesive peace.
Dark lizardfolk look like tall, bipedal lizards with darkened scales and dark green frills along their back. Their eyes are dark but bright, and their scales are hardened to a long extent. They can live up to 750 years, dragging slowly through life. They mature from around 10 years old to 13 years old, and the process is extremely sped up compared to humans, only lasting from 2 years to about 5 years.
Dark Lizardfolk Traits
Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 5–7 feet tall)
Speed: 30 feet
Bite
You have the ability to use your Bite instead of a normal Unarmed Strike. If you use your Bite, you deal 1d8 plus your Strength modifier Piercing damage instead of the normal damage. If you use a normal Unarmed Strike, it deals 1d6 Slashing damage instead of the normal Bludgeoning damage due to your sharpened claws.
Feeding Frenzy
You can throw yourself into a feeding frenzy as a Bonus Action. When you do, make a Bite attack against one creature within ten feet of you. This expends 5 feet of movement per creature you attack (see higher levels section). You regain an amount of HP equal to the damage dealt. The amount of creatures you can attack upgrades at levels 3 (2 creatures), 5 (3 creatures), 7 (4 creatures), and 9 (5 creatures).
You can use your Feeding Frenzy a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Swampborn Resilience
You have Resistance to Poison damage. You also have Advantage on saving throws meant to avoid or end the Poisoned condition, have a swimming speed equal to your walking speed, can hold your breath for up to 15 minutes, and are unaffected by Difficult Terrain caused by liquids or other effects related to water.
Darkvision
You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.
Hardened Scales
Your scales are hardened from long submersion in swampy waters, a common practice among dark lizardfolk. Your AC while you are not wearing armor is 10 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.
