Where standard humans possess a fierce, short-lived spark that drives them to conquer and build at a frantic pace, the Anthren represent a deeper, more enduring flame. They are a rare and refined lineage of humanity whose very souls are woven into the ambient magic of the Material Plane. While they share the adaptability and ambition of their shorter-lived human cousins, the Anthren possess an innate grace, an extended lifespan, and a natural fluency in the arcane that rivals the eldest of races.

While most of humanity drifted away from this magical attunement over generations—becoming the shorter-lived, adaptable humans of today—the Anthren are the families who maintained that baseline connection to the Aether. They are not mutants or extraplanar crossbreeds; they are simply a pure, unbroken continuation of humanity at its magical peak.

Because of this, they are rare. They do not have vast empires of their own anymore. Instead, they exist in small, tight-knit noble enclaves, monastic orders, or as esteemed families within larger human cities, quietly acting as advisors, warmages, and keepers of history.

Standard humans are driven by the anxiety of their short lifespans, rushing to leave a legacy before they die. Anthren possess the same human drive to achieve greatness, but their extended years grant them a patient, strategic outlook more akin to an elf or a dwarf. An Anthren wizard might spend forty years perfecting a single spell theory, while an Anthren politician will happily weave a plot that takes decades to mature.

Anthren use the same naming conventions as regional humans, though they heavily favor older, traditional, or aristocratic names that have been passed down through their long-lived family lines for generations.

Innate Spark

You are born with a fragment of the Weave tied to your soul. You know one cantrip of your choice from the Sorcerer spell list. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for it (choose when you create the character)

Analytical Mind

Your lineage is defined by a rigorous, systematic understanding of magical syntax. You gain proficiency in the Arcana skill. If you already have proficiency in it from your class or background, your proficiency bonus is doubled for any check you make with it.

Ability Score Increase

You can increase an ability score by 1.

Age

They mature at the same rate as humans but live up to 180 years, rarely showing signs of physical frailty in old age.

Size

Anthren vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. Anthren typically learn the languages of other peoples they deal with, including obscure dialects.
