Homebrew Bloodfiend Species Details

An Ancient Lineage, Not a Curse

Bloodfiends do not owe their existence to dark gods, abyssal compacts, or necromantic defilement. They are a unique offshoot of humanoids stemming from a singular, powerful Progenitor who fundamentally reshaped the properties of their own blood. Because they are biologically alive, they easily bypass traditional detection methods; spells like Detect Evil and Good do not flag them as undead, and they are immune to features like a Cleric's Turn Undead.

The Law of Kindred and Absolute Authority

Bloodfiend society is rigidly structured based on how many steps removed an individual is from the Progenitor, organized into Kindred Generations (Second Kindred, Third Kindred, etc.). This hierarchy is reinforced by a terrifying biological trait known as Absolute Authority. A higher-generation Bloodfiend can issue a verbal command to a lower-generation descendant, and the listener's own bloodstream will physically force their body to comply, completely overriding their free will.

Dispelling the Vampire Myths

Having evolved to survive alongside, and hidden within, mortal civilizations, Bloodfiends possess none of the flaws popularized in standard vampire folklore:

• Sunlight & Running Water: They can walk beneath the midday sun or swim across rivers without suffering adverse effects.

• Garlic & Holy Wards: They are completely unaffected by common herbal repellents or religious icons.

• The Hunger: They do not strictly need blood to sustain their physical bodies and can survive on synthesized alchemical nutrients (though these substitutes taste like ash). Instead, they suffer from an agonizing psychological and emotional starvation that can only be temporarily pacified by the warmth of genuine mortal blood.
