Homebrew Na’vi Species Details
The Na’vi, meaning “The People,” are a sapient humanoid species native to the lush moon of Pandora. They are exceptionally tall by human standards, commonly standing between 8 and 10 feet in height, with long limbs, slender but powerfully muscled bodies, mobile ears, feline facial features, four digits on each hand and foot, and long prehensile tails used for balance and climbing.
Their skin ranges through shades of cyan and blue, often marked by darker stripes or bands. At night, bioluminescent markings appear across their bodies in unique patterns that can identify individuals. Their large eyes are adapted for low-light hunting and give them excellent night vision.
Na’vi possess a neural queue called a kuru or tswin, usually protected within their braided hair. Through this queue, they can form tsaheylu, a physical neural bond with compatible Pandoran animals, certain sacred biological networks, and other Na’vi. This bond allows the sharing of intent, emotion, memory, and sensation, but it does not function as magical domination or ordinary telepathy.
Most Na’vi live in clan-based hunter-gatherer societies with sophisticated traditions, oral histories, rites of passage, spiritual practices, and ecological knowledge. Their technology is simple compared to industrial civilizations, but their culture is complex, adaptive, and deeply tied to the living systems of Pandora.
Na’vi Traits
Your Na’vi character has the physical grace, strength, senses, and ecological awareness of the People of Pandora. These traits represent a Na’vi’s powerful build, arboreal movement, nocturnal vision, hunter-gatherer training, balancing tail, bioluminescent markings, and neural queue.Ability Score Increase
When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1, but you can’t raise any of your scores above 20.
Darkvision
Your large, night-adapted eyes allow you to see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in darkness only as shades of gray.
Powerful Build
Na’vi are much taller and heavier than most humanoids, you count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.
Arboreal Athlete
You are adapted for climbing trees, cliffs, vines, roots, and other natural surfaces. You have a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.
Hunter’s Senses
Your keen senses, forward-facing eyes, and hunter’s awareness make you highly alert to movement, distance, and danger. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.
Hunter-Gatherer
You are trained in the practical skills of a hunter-gatherer culture, including tracking, foraging, reading terrain, finding water, navigating wilderness, and understanding signs left by creatures. You have proficiency in the Survival skill.
Tail Balance
Your long, prehensile tail helps you balance, climb, and arrest falls. You have advantage on Dexterity checks made to keep your balance, move across narrow natural surfaces, cling to branches or vines, or avoid falling, provided your tail is free to move.
Kuru / Tsaheylu
You possess a neural queue, also called a kuru or tswin, usually protected within your braided hair. The queue is a sensitive extension of your nervous system. If your queue is severed, you lose access to Tsaheylu and suffer a catastrophic injury determined by the DM.
As an action, you can form tsaheylu with a willing compatible Pandoran creature, mount, or biological network within 5 feet of you. While physically connected, you and the bonded creature can share simple emotions, sensory impressions, and intent. If the creature is a willing mount, you can guide it without reins or spoken commands while the bond lasts.
This bond does not charm, dominate, or control the creature. It does not grant spellcasting, full telepathy, or language comprehension. The bond ends if either participant chooses to end it, if physical contact is broken, or if either participant is incapacitated.
Languages
You can speak and read Common and Na'vi.
