Homebrew Clutchwarden Species Details

Clutchwardens are the offspring of dragons and are hatched from the eggs of dragons.  As children and "teens", they exist as humanoids that resemble humans with some fey features.

The details are kept secret by the dragons, for they do not wish to be attacked in such a horrific way ever again.  For a number of years, magics created by the giants in their attempt at rising a new titan, were also causing all eggs laid by the dragons to be inert and dead.  This began to cause dragon numbers to decrease as the war with the giants continued.  When the giants were defeated and the magics disrupted in a final way, dragon egg clutches soon began to give birth to dragons once again.  However, when the new dragons hatched from their eggs, they were in a humanoid form and not born as dragons. Instead of classic wyrmlings, the eggs produced humanoid infants who carry a unique blend of suppressed draconic heritage and an unexpected fey influence—likely from the ambient magic of the world (or a strange side-effect of the giant binding) during their long dormancy.

Clutchwardens are born looking mostly human, but with striking characteristics that set them apart from humans:
  • Slightly pointed ears
  • Luminous, unusually colored eyes (often with a faint glow)
  • Ethereal beauty and graceful presence
  • Faint iridescent or shimmering scale-like patterns on their skin, hair, or nails that catch the light
  • Subtle markings that resemble delicate vines, stars, or faint draconic motifs
  • They will always appear adolescent or as young adults.

Breath Weapon

When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in either a 15-foot Cone or a 30-foot Line that is 5 feet wide (choose the shape each time). Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8 plus your Constitution modifier and Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, a creature takes 1d10 damage of the type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait. On a successful save, a creature takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach character levels 5 (2d10), 11 (3d10), and 17 (4d10).

You can use this Breath Weapon a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Damage Resistance

You have Resistance to the damage type determined by your Draconic Ancestry trait.

Darkvision

You have Darkvision with a range of 60 feet.
