Homebrew Android Species Details

You are a machine pretending to be a man.

Android Traits

As an android, you gain these features

Variable Nature

You increase two different ability scores of your choice by 1.

Additionally, our size is either Medium or Small, your choice upon character creation. If your body must be remade, your new vessel may change its size from Medium to Small or vice versa.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as though it were bright light, and in darkness as though it were dim light.

Artificial

Your type is construct, meaning certains spells like Cure Wound and Charm Person cannot affect you. You are immune to poison damage, as well as to all poisons and the poisoned condition. You cannot be put to sleep and do not need sleep.

Mana Eater

You do not need to eat and cannot gain levels of exhaustion. However, you must consume 1 Mana a day to power your own daily functions.

Modes

You enter different modes that represent your rate of Mana consumption at any given time.

  • Standard mode: You expend 1 Mana every day to power your average daily function.
  • Conservation mode: You expend 1 Mana from your core every 5 days instead of your normal rate. Your speed is halved and you suffer disadvantage on all attack rolls, ability checks, and saving throws. When you have only 1 Mana in your core, you automatically enter Conservation mode.
  • Overcharge mode: As an action, you expend 1 Mana from your pool. For 1 minute, your speed increases by 10 feet, and gain one of the following features of your choice. When your Overcharge ends, you enter Conservation mode for 10 minutes.
    • You gain a fly speed of 20 feet and may hover in place.
    • Each turn, the first melee attack you make that hits a creature deals 1d8 additional lightning damage.
    • You gain temporary hit points equal to your character level for the duration and at the start of each turn you regain a number of hit points equal to your Constitution modifier.

Deathless

When you are reduced to 0 hit points or if you run out of Mana, you deactivate. The deactivated condition is identical to death, except that any restoration of Mana or HP reverts deactivation, so long as your core is intact.

You cannot 'die' unless your core is destroyed or removed from your body. An android core is a magical item that can only be destroyed with a DC 20 Tinker's Tool check after 1 hour of work, ceasing your function and sense of self. If your core is intact but your body is destroyed or unusable, a new body can be created for you with 2,000 gp worth of material and at least 1 month of work (at least 8 hours a day).
