Homebrew Aethon Species Details
Aethon are the native mortal race of Epochara, the Plane of Time — beings for whom the linear sequence of past-to-present-to-future is not a fundamental experience of reality but one possible arrangement of moments among several that are simultaneously available to them. They do not live in the past or the future. They live in all of it, with varying degrees of access to different temporal positions, and the challenge of their existence is not knowing when they are but communicating across the difference between their temporal experience and everyone else's.
Aethon Traits
Creature Type: Humanoid
Size: Medium (about 4–7 feet tall) or Small (about 2–4 feet tall), chosen when you select this species
Speed: 30 feet
Nonlinear Perception
You have advantage on initiative rolls. In addition, once per long rest, when you or a creature you can see within 30 feet of you makes an attack roll, an ability check, or a saving throw, you can use your reaction to grant advantage on that roll — a fragment of a moment you have, in some sense, already lived through. Once you use this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.
The Settling
You have proficiency in the Insight skill. When you communicate with a creature for the first time in a scene, you may take an action to deliberately constrain your perception to their present moment, granting you advantage on the next Charisma (Persuasion) or Charisma (Deception) check you make against that creature within the next minute.
Temporal Superimposition
You are naturally difficult to pin down in combat: once per long rest, whenever a creature misses you with an attack roll you can use a reaction to superimpose yourself, it must succeed on a DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier intelligence saving throw or momentarily forget your exact position, missing any subsequent attack it makes against you until the start of your next turn automatically.
