Homebrew Adeptus Astartes Species Details
The Space Marines or Adeptus Astartes are foremost amongst the defenders of Humanity, the greatest of the Emperor of Mankind's warriors. They are barely Human at all, but superhuman; having been made superior in all respects to a normal man by a harsh regime of genetic modification, psycho-conditioning and rigorous training.
Space Marines are untouched by plague or any natural disease and can suffer wounds that would kill a lesser being several times over, and live to fight again. Clad in ancient power armour and wielding the most potent weapons known to man, the Space Marines are terrifying foes and their devotion to the Emperor and the Imperium of Man is unyielding. They are the God-Emperor's Angels of Death, and they know no fear.
The Astartes are physically stronger, far more resilient and often mentally far removed from the lot of most normal, unaugmented Human beings. In the presence of the Astartes, most Imperial citizens feel a combination of awe and fear, and many cultures on the more primitive worlds of the galaxy simply worship them outright as demigods or angels of the God-Emperor made flesh.
They should feel so, for many Space Marines feel little compassion for those they have sometimes termed "mortals" in comparison to themselves, seeing the very people they were created to protect as little more than obstacles to a more efficient eradication of the Imperium's enemies. This is an attitude sometimes taken by whole Chapters. They see normal Humans as frail, weak creatures given to the follies of temptation, avarice, greed, lust and cowardice -- all emotions they rarely feel, if ever.
They were intended not to lead Humanity, but to defend it, sometimes even from itself. At the heart of that mission lies the limitless compassion the Emperor extended to every man and woman in the galaxy when He willingly chose to condemn Himself to more than 10,000 standard years of imprisonment within a dying prison of flesh for their sake. Some Astartes sneer at compassion, seeing it as one more Human weakness that has been purged from their superior transhuman bodies and minds. But the wisest of the Space Marines know that in the end, compassion is their only salvation.
Adeptus Astartes Traits
The transformation into an Adeptus Astartes leaves an individual forever changed. Your character gains the following traits as a result of their enhanced physiology, relentless training, and unwavering resolve.Enhanced Physiology
Your transformation has made your body exceptionally resilient. You have resistance to Poison damage, and you have advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the Poisoned condition.
Superhuman Strength
Your immense physical power is one of the defining traits of an Adeptus Astartes. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift. In addition, you have advantage on Strength (Athletics) checks made to shove, grapple, or force open, break, or hold shut objects such as doors, gates, and chains.
Secondary Heart
Your body contains a secondary heart and other redundant organs that sustain you in the face of mortal injury. When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can choose to drop to 1 hit point instead.
Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Larraman's Organ
Whenever you regain hit points by spending one or more Hit Dice during a Short Rest, you regain additional hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.
Catalepsean Node
During a Long Rest, you remain conscious of your surroundings. You aren't rendered unconscious while resting unless you choose to be, and you can perceive your surroundings normally.
Omophagea
As part of a Short or Long Rest, you may consume a small piece of a Beast, Humanoid, Monstrosity, or Giant that died within the last 24 hours. The DM may reveal one brief memory, instinct, or piece of information the creature possessed.
Once you use this trait, you can't use it again until you finish a Long Rest.
Occulobe
You have Darkvision out to 60 feet. If you already have Darkvision, its range increases by 60 feet.
Multi-Lung
You can hold your breath for up to 1 hour, and you have advantage on Constitution saving throws made against inhaled gases, smoke, and similar airborne hazards.
Preomnor
You have advantage on saving throws against ingested poisons and diseases. During a Short Rest, you can safely consume otherwise spoiled or contaminated food and water without suffering ill effects.
Betcher's Gland
As an action, you can spit acid at a creature within 15 feet. Make a ranged attack using your Constitution modifier for the attack and damage rolls. On a hit, the target takes 1d6 acid damage.
The damage increases to 2d6 at 5th level, 3d6 at 11th level, and 4d6 at 17th level.
You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Astartes Discipline
You have advantage on saving throws against being Frightened.
Gene-Lineage
Choose one of the following Gene-Lineages. Once chosen, it can't be changed except by your DM.
Towering Presence

Once on each of your turns, if you move at least 20 feet straight toward a creature before hitting it with a melee weapon attack, the attack deals an extra 1d8 damage of the weapon's type.
Black Carapace
The Black Carapace implanted beneath your skin allows you to move with unnatural ease while armored.
While you are wearing Medium or Heavy Armor:
- Your speed isn't reduced by wearing Heavy Armor.
- You can don or doff armor in half the normal time.
You gain a +2 to your AC
