Homebrew Bethlezen Puppet Species Details

The Bethlezen Puppets, often called the Hollow Folk, are one of the greatest mysteries in Embral. Created during the final years of the Dramoi Wars by the artificers of the Ivory Workshop in the kingdom of Bethlezen, they were originally intended to be soulless constructs that could replace fallen soldiers. Instead, something impossible occurred: the completed puppets awakened with independent minds, emotions, and personalities, while every creator in the Workshop vanished without a trace. Stranger still, new Puppets continue to awaken centuries later from abandoned dolls, marionettes, mannequins, and unfinished constructs, despite no one knowing how or why.

Hollow Soul

Spells that restore life, detect souls, or commune with spirits interact strangely with Bethlezen Puppets, at the DM's discretion. Some clerics insist they possess ordinary souls. Others claim there is something older - and far stranger - looking back through their eyes. No consensus has ever been reached. Among the Bethlezen Puppets, there is an unsettling saying passed quietly from one awakened construct to another:

"We were not built to become alive. We became alive because something else stopped being alone."
