Homebrew Arcane Remnant Species Details
Arcane Remnants are extraordinary beings born from the aftermath of magical catastrophes. When immense amounts of uncontrolled arcane energy are released, the destruction left behind can sometimes cause magic and enchanted dust to condense into a stable humanoid form. From this chaos, a new consciousness emerges: an Arcane Remnant.
Though their creation may involve the destruction of countless lives, an Arcane Remnant is not a vessel for those who were lost. The memories, personalities, and identities of those affected are gone, leaving behind only the raw magical essence that formed the foundation of something entirely new. They are not an amalgamation of souls, but a singular new being with its own thoughts, emotions, and desires.
An Arcane Remnant instinctively understands the circumstances of its creation, often knowing the events, energies, and forces that brought it into existence. However, it does not experience guilt, grief, or horror over its origin. To them, the catastrophe is not a tragedy they endured—it is simply the first moment of their existence. They can understand why others may view their creation with fear, sadness, or anger, but they regard those emotions as belonging to others, not themselves.
Rare and often misunderstood, Arcane Remnants exist as living reminders of magic's unpredictable nature: proof that from even the greatest magical disasters, something entirely new can emerge.
Arcane Remnant Traits

Your physical form is merely a stable arrangement of condensed magic. As an action, you can disperse your body into a cloud of shimmering arcane dust and magical energy.
You gain the use of Gaseous form, once per long rest
Arcane Integration
An Arcane Remnant does not store equipment in the same way as other creatures. Objects can be absorbed into their arcane essence and reconstructed when needed, becoming part of their stable magical pattern. This process does not create duplicates or make possessions impossible to steal; an integrated object can still be separated from the Remnant.
When an integrated object is removed from the Remnant's control, the magical connection to that object is disrupted. The Remnant cannot recreate, manifest, or access the object until the connection is restored. If an integrated container is taken, such as a pouch or bag, its contents remain inaccessible to both the Remnant and the thief until the container is returned or the bond is repaired.
Innate Arcana
Arcane Remnants are living manifestations of magical energy, and their connection to the Weave allows them to produce minor arcane effects without training. You learn a small number of spells that reflect your magical nature. These spells do not come from study or practice, but from the innate power that sustains your existence.
You know the Prestidigitation cantrip. At 3rd level, you can cast Detect Magic once without expending a spell slot, regaining the ability to do so when you finish a long rest. At 5th level, you can briefly disperse and reform your essence, teleporting up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. This ability is not a spell and does not require concentration.
Your spellcasting ability for these spells is Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma (choose when you select this species).
