Homebrew Delkoko Species Details

Where the Delkokos originated is unknown and due to their exceeding rarity, theories on their origins are sparse. It may have been some errant magic from the Feywild or a divine spark, but even the Delkokos themselves aren't very interested in hunting down this origin. They instead focus on the current life given to them and the history of their own tribes. They are a life-loving people that work communally to achieve a comfortable lifestyle. They work enough to eat and spend the rest of their time either relaxing in the sun, singing and dancing, or celebrating whatever they feel justifies a celebration - even if that reason is simply that they have the freedom to celebrate.

They live in small tribes based around their Pocamoñoko Tree - a coconut tree which births new Delkokos. It is a sacred, metaphorically parental figure for them. Most villages differ to naturally integrate with the nature around them, but nearly all of them have an Oko Moñoko, or "Home House". This is equivalent to a dwarven feast hall mixed with human town hall. Food is prepared here and village-wide parties are thrown here every night.

Their religions generally focus on their Pocamoñoko Tree, but can differ to adapt to their environment. For example, Orange Husk Delkokos are sometimes known to praise the sun due to its resemblance to their husks.

Most Delkoko tribes do not have a concept of money. They merely give what is needed and politely take what is wanted but they do have a concept of private property. They would not take something without at least asking unless it was an emergency or if that particular something was food left in a public space. The concept of withholding medical supplies or food without payment would be seen as abhorrent to Delkoko culture.

Delkokos love dressing themselves up. They will use flowers like hats or wigs, and leaves like beards or moustaches. They'll paint their husks or even carve intricate shapes into the wood. Sometimes, if they are particularly inspired by a person, they may try emulating their exact look or basing a new one off of their style.

A new Pocamoñoko Tree can form only if one of three conditions are met:

  • When a Pocamoñoko Tree begins to die, it will try to create two final Delkokos. If it is able to survive the standard 9 month period of growth, the Delkokos will go forth into the world and find a place to settle down. Once they live their natural cycle or if they choose to do so, they will be able to enter plant themselves into the ground and enter a status, allowing a new Pocamoñoko Tree to form from their remains.
  • If a Delkoko is the last of their tribe and they feel an terrible despair overwhelm them, they will enter a trance like state and try to find a hidden place to plant themself.
  • If a Delkoko reaches the end of its life and feels a intense inner-peace and self-fulfilment, it may randomly sprout a new infant tree from its head upon death. It becomes the responsibility of its tribe to find a new place to plant this, typically far away as to create a brand new community separate from their own.

Delkokos all resemble coconuts with leafy or root-like appendages and vary in size, colour, and husk toughness. Despite any differences, Delkokos do not discriminate or even recognize a difference. They live for around 100 years. They are naturally genderless but they may choose to adapt to a particular way of presenting based on preference. However, their culture and language do not have a concept of sex or gender. They are all naturally diurnal as they become sleepy without the presence of sunshine which energizes them, though they can survive without it. They are all completely herbivores and are incapable of digesting meat.
